Perhaps you won’t be buying one then.

Nope

Looked at trading my GSa in against something else, but the prices seem to have gone crazy.
Looked at an RS1250, it was bloody 16.5k !

Just not worth it. Pity as I've had a couple of new BMW's and liked the experience.

Have you specced up a GSA or a K16 recently?

Yes I have and I laughed out loud.

That's for a base model R18 as well.

Crazy.

Looks like I'll do the Z900rs thing for a couple of years. Will keep the GSa for a bit as well I think. Secondhand prices should be strong given the new prices haha.

in other news you cant get a pint and a packet of crisps with change left over from a pound anymore. Not sure how people survive tbh.

I had a very similar price conversation with a friend recently who bought a new BMW K1300S in 2011 but was squirming at the cost of a new H2 SX. We looked up the RPI changes since 2011 and used the cost of his brand new (then) K1300S as the baseline. Just using the RPI changes got us to less than £500 difference from the new H2 SX price.

Take a (real) price of a new bike of a similar style/capacity from the days when "bike pricing was reasonable" and apply the RPI changes for the intervening years and I'll bet the price of the new R18 is not far out!

Guberment tells you there is no inflation. Inflation is actually everywhere.

yeah...the real inflation adjusted price of mainstream bikes has not changed for >30 years ...albeit we have more choice of "high end" specials now from the likes of MV Agusta and Ducati...and BMW

A £6500 superbike from 1990 is a £15k bike in todays money.

and if you haven't had a 30% pay rise over the last 10 years in real terms you have had a pay cut, thanks to the governments use of their favourite form of stealth tax......a couple of percent a year does not sound like much but soon adds up

Curiosity has got the better of me.
Demo booked for Tuesday, no intention of buying one (and yes I told the sales guy that) just interested to experience it.

I looked at one in the BMW dealership last weekend, can't say I really liked it to be honest, mind you didn't test ride it. However, strangely I do have the slight hots for the Indian Scout which is getting on for 1/2 the price. Think if I were in the market for such a bike that's where my money would be, albeit not the same engine size etc.

Mmmm, I hadn’t heard of this so looked it up. It’s like when you were thinking you want a Harley Davidson and a BMW, but don’t want two bikes, but you can pay the price of two bikes in one bike. Or something like that. And get 90hp out of 1800cc.

that's how silent creeping robbery works.
They even call it "a target" and tell us how much they plan to steal from us on yearly basis.
2% normally, but now since they cannot achieve that level (according to their computational method, which is criminally flawed), they talk about "average target", meaning over time they want 2% average robbery, but in-between they can have higher level, and, of course, they do not really specify the time frame over which this average is going to be computed, it is a clever cop-out to rob more on a continuous basis.
