So I get my immaculate Type R valued on the Wbac website at 28k (about 2k more than expected) However due to work commitments I couldn't proceed at the time and my 4 day guaranteed valuation expired this afternoon. I went back onto the site just now as I'm now in a position to sell the car and amazed that the valuation has dropped by 4k to 24k when 24 hours ago it was 28k. Is that par for the course for Wbac? If so is it even worth looking at other options or should I accept that the Wbac valuation as realistic? Kicking myself for not reacting quicker....

The prices do fluctuate, my S3 rose week on week between May and August, then started to tail off slowly so I took the plunge (£50 less that it peaked at). Checked the value in the weeks that followed the sale and it’s gone up another £1k.

Annoying, but nothing I can do about it now!

Are you not happy with it?

Or just fancy a change?

Some people on here have reported that WBAC sometimes email a week later to up their offer, so I'd leave it for at least a week before accepting the new value.

I've heard from a few people that their first offer is always the best one, if you go back again it's always lower. A bit like booking plane tickets, the more times you have a look the more expensive they seem to get!

I've done 3 valuation requests for the same car, same account in the last 3 months. The car has gone from 15700 in june, then 17500, now 18100.

OP it fluctuates

Seems a very drastic drop OP. Have you got something wrong on the new valuation?

I entered mine out of curiosity and never done anything with it, they then emailed me and so I entered it again and it went up.

Maybe wait until they contact you.

As to why, could the release of the 70 plate have anything to do with it?

In that case I think I'll hold on for a bit. It's a fabulous car (despite its marmite looks) however Covid has caused a major change in our finances

It's just part of the game isn't it?
You value it before trying privately, have no luck and go back to them.
Value is less so you have little choice but to accept it, win win for them.

I had the same thing a few years ago selling a Mini Cooper S. Price dropped by about £1000 in less than a week. I phoned them to ask why, and while I was on the phone I put the details in twice more out of interest - sure enough it fell another few hundred quid each time.

The guy I was speaking to couldn't explain it and just kept saying the prices reflect "market conditions" etc.

I think it's an algorithm designed to make them more money as you get more desperate to sell. The more often you check, the lower the price goes.

Their underwrite price changes every 7 days. Sometimes, as you have found out, quite significantly.

I imagine with the auction lanes having been open a few weeks now, albeit mostly virtually, that they have got enough of what you are looking to sell, or they have recently taken a hit on a few.

Have you tried autotrader, now that they offer the same as WBAC, a car buying service? The prices are usually somewhat higher than that offered by WBAC.

sold a shed via wbac. they negotiated on the day as it wasn't showroom and needed some smart repairs to light scratches. 15yr old car...
anyone with experience of a 20k+ car?

How is deleting cookies going to work? Do you really think WBAC is not going to have recorded which buyers have asked for a valuation and when? Assuming of course WBAC changes its value depending on how many times a person has asked for a figure.
