porsche speedster based boxster!! what a thing
Discussion
I often get some tasty machines at work but i just HAD to share this one..... porsche boxster based speedster build.... EXCELLENT fit and finish and near perfect proportions i fell in love with it! Excuse wheel arch gaps, its slightly lifted on the ramp. The car had the 2.0 turbo running gear , and the wheels were custom split rims from image... once sat on the floor it has a proper squat slightly tucked wheel look, bloody awesome!

I’ve been looking at buying a 356 for about the last year so have spent a lot of time looking at them....have to say I am not really a fan of that. The way the hood meets the body/tonneau and the rear side vents really show what it is underneath. However, my view is not important if the owner loves it that’s what matters

Fair enough, i hear you, its really was a well put together car and with the modern running gear felt special. I closely inspected the hood area and it was very very neat. The rear side vents are one piece billet alloy sections and again i think my pic makes them look worse than in the metal.... the proportions were bang on. Obviously this type of build i would imagine is not cheap. Great feedback however, i really enjoyed my time with it.... you can get a better a view of it in my video at the end when it drives out my shop . (skip to the end 30 seconds) and let me no your thoughts. i looked at this car with a retro build view in mind and i felt it really succeeded. i would imagine the purists will hate this . I do feel my pic doesn't flatter the car well , as outside and on all four wheels squarely its proportions are just perfect.

Clearly a labour of love and glad people do this. It’s inspiration for thinking differently.
What’s always going to be difficult is copying something so iconic. The eagle version of an e type springs to mind- you have to do it to such a level to make it admired as a copy.
I wonder if it would have more success if it was reimagined a lot more rather copied?

There do seem to be a couple of these Boxster's to 356s around, some look very nice. This one reminded more of a baby Rolls Royce, but maybe just because of the way it's sat.
I am glad people are interesting enough to do these kinds of things, some times a little mad. But the world is better with them than without.

tough crowd ....
im pretty critical on these type of things , but i guess its not going to please everyone.... i felt very well done, really well put together and with the 718 drive train its actually a very fun drive... i believe this guy was the friend of the man that owns the company.
so from most the comments im reading, its the proportions that don't work... maybe my pics just aren't doing it justice but it was utterly stunning.
i agree with above... more of a re-imagined type build but surprised so many dislike.

It’s ok ? Really needs bumpers , especially at the rear imo. Reminds me of this proportion wise

The guy doing the wrap had some skill! From starting of with what looked like a giant piece of cling film lol.
it was me doing the PPF install, incredibly difficult as its all one piece custom, no templates, custom made on the car... not many will even take a job like this on. The guy doing the wrap had some skill! From starting of with what looked like a giant piece of cling film lol.

A 986 Boxster with a body kit for £68k?? I'd rather have 10x 986 Boxsters and change. Beedub said:

Welcome to PH, it's easier to be that way.so from most the comments im reading, its the proportions that don't work... maybe my pics just aren't doing it justice but it was utterly stunning.
In all honestly, never try to copy a classic... the original is a reference point so you're only ever going to fail. Doesn't mean it's not amazingly well done as a "car".
Thanks for sharing.
Remember seeing a Boxster/356 conversion at the NEC Classic Motorshow a couple of years ago.
At the front it looked ok but as you walked around the cars the proportions were not there (to my eyes).
Obviously other people will have different opinions but I would be much more inclined to get a Cheshil Speedster. Obviously that means more concessions (as its an not a reasonably modern engine etc) but at least it looks better.

ok..... now that is alot of money..... i wasnt expecting that type of cost.... as this car has basically a new 718 turbo chassis it may even be closer to 100k :-Oi can say however to my eyes ( which admittedly no - one seems to agree, LOL) this car without the bumpers looks much more cohesive.
