“The perfect storm” – over half of the important points and interesting bits where left out in the film! Couple that with wooden acting and the American way of over doing things…You have an awful film from a rather good book.

Has there EVER been a film that is as good as the book it's based on?

It is simply impossible to squeeze a few days worth of character building, descriptions, plot and dialogue into a couple of hours of screen time.

I can see The War Of The Worlds becoming one of these - one of the best early science fiction novels ever i feel, turned into a vehicle for Tom Cruise. Oh, and the fact that its set in New York is just bloody ridiculous. Not seen it yet, but i think we can expect a plundering of the name and little else....
