I want to take my hardtop off. Do I need to do anything like strenghthen the windscreen surround. Do I need to fit mirrors (all mine will come off with doors and roof)? If I buy a second hand soft top (anyone out there got one for sale?) will it fit straight on, or will I have to keep putting the hard top back on at night? Or does anyone want to swap a soft top car for a hard top one?
Thanks.

Hi Jeff.

Later softtop Geeps had two bars running from the rollcage to the screen header. This is to keep the screen upright at speed, support the hood & to reduce scuttle shake.
Additionally, they have a hoop bolted across the top of the rollcage to stretch the hood out past the doors, and a folding hoop on the rear to support the rear of the hood.

Should you obtain a used hood, or have one made these should be reasonably easy to fabricate. New hoods and fitting kits are available from Belfield Engineering (new manufacturer of Sandero) and although expensive are of a superior quality.

Should you req' photos or diagrams as to wots wot I can assist in a couple of weeks after my summer hols.

Swizz...

'seem to have read the official stance on mirrors somewhere.....as I can't remember it word for word, I won't pass on what I think it was, but will try to look it up over this weekend...personally, the more I can see...the better!
No doubt a fellow JOC member with a better memory than myself will come to your rescue lol
Best Wishes

Found it!!
According to my Jago Build Manual................
"You must fit two external mirrors, and details of these are under 'mirrors'. All mirrors fitted must be 'E' marked as must all tyres and wheels"

Mirrors
"You must by law fit an internal mirror, further details of which are to be found under Item 38 (ancillary items). The law also requires that you must have one mirror fitted externally on the offside of the vehicle at all times (i.e. you cannot fit this on a removable door) If the internal mirror affords the driver no view to the rear of the vehicle, you must have a mirror fitted to the nearside of the vehicle as well. This means that if you carry anything in the back of your Geep that could restrict your rear view in the internal rear view mirror, you must fit external mirrors to each side of your Geep. This means that even if you carry an item that obstructs your view only once, you will infringe the law. We would strongly suggest in the view of safety that two external mirrors are fitted."

The mirrors are usually fitted to the windscreen pillars. I have the fitting instructions as per manual, let me know if you want them. Also....we had a string backalong on where to get mirrors from as well....farm supply outlets are a good source...once again though..just shout if you need help
Cheers
Gerry

For the bits and bobs, Turnbuckles, liftlatch fixings and Hipkiss fasteners (press studs to you and me try -
Marine Stores Chandlery.

type "marinestore" and search uk sites and they come up.

relatively fast good online catalogue and the prices inc post were cheaper than the local chandlers.

With No roof and No soft top fitting you may find it pays to fit a piece of angle iron across the inside top windscreen frame - I used 25mm angle and have left it in now bolted as a spreader through the frame to the triangular section box roof front anchorage bar.

Swizz, I would very much appreciate diagrams etc, because I would like a soft top jeep. The more I look into it, the harder it seems to be, like I've just found out that soft top doors are an inch wider, also looking at pictures of soft top cars there seems to be an extra piece on top of the windscreen surround that mine does not have. Any advice, photos, diagrams etc would be apprciated.
news in wales travells fast. As you've now bought a nice new soft top, do you want to sell your old one?
Thanks.
