Company holiday allowance...

Right, I know there'll be the usual bunch of gloating bratsdads ("I own the company and I'll take as much time off as I want") but ignore those and let's find out what the situation is with holiday entitlement.
Why do I ask? I've been with same employer for almost 12 years and I get the same paltry 20 days (plus 8 bank hols) as when I started. Other companes within our corporate group get 25 minimum (plus BH) with more for longer service.
Am I right in thinking 20 days is a bit old-hat and more to the point, that extra holidays are a long-service incentive? Am I (and colleagues, obviously) yet again being taken for a mug by this bunch of comics?

In my experience:
Sensible private sector - 20 days, plus 1 day for every year of service up to 25 days or thereabouts.
Soft public sector - anything up to 40 days (I kid you not). 8 weeks FFS.
Me? I work for myself. My last time off was Le Mans last weekend. The time before that? Le Mans 2004!!! Working for yourself doesn't always mean lots of holidays!

No I'm NOT a "high flyer", every one else gets the same in my company after a due service period.
In this: I can't fault 'em, and so when needs be, I'm willing to put myself out for them too. Lang mae' they reign.
P.S. Sickness, in this company as a result, is VERY low!

We give twenty days a year - after two years it starts going up by a day a year up to a maximum of 25.
I think that's fair myself - for a small firm.
The wife (who works for a large corporation) actually gets about thirty days off a year. It started at 20, through long service got to 25, and then there was some business that got her the extra days.
She can never manage to clear enough time in her diary to take them, regularly carries over five days (continually) etc etc. She also works ridiculous hours.
I'm thinking we should take a month off around Christmas this year...

I dont know about anyone else, but I'd be lost with more than 25 days holiday.
I'd get bored at Xmas and end up itching to be back at work.
I used to be in a job where it was school hours so I got 13 weeks off a year (pay adjusted of course) yet when I had my 6 weeks summer holiday off by 4 weeks I was broke, hot and bored, mind you I didnt have a garden then.
