Had my chim 400 for almost a year, and about 6k miles. Planning to do service , any recommendations for suppliers for a service kit? Tvrparts/racetech/some other random place that isnt tvr specialist?

Thanks in advance

I usually buy seperate to avoid the Tvr tax, I've not looked at service kits to compare prices.
I normally stock up for the family fleet from Euro car parts when a decent sale discount is on.
On the Tvr:
Mann oil and fuel filter
NGK bpr6es spark plugs
Valvoline racing Vr1 20/50 oil
The part numbers for filters will be on here somewhere.

As above I just but the parts from local auto factors although I did buy my last oil online after being convinced about going for one with a high was it zinc? content. None of the parts are especially unique to TVR and are considerably cheaper elsewhere.

thanks both,

would you bother with changing air filter at 6k miles and 12 months interval? also replace diff and gearbox oil or just check and top up?

Change the trans oils regular they get a hard time in the tunnel bombarded by heat constantly, far cheaper than rebuilding further down the line frown both oils are cheap so no excuse

I’d agree about the oils, we tend to forget the tranny and diff but for what it costs.
The pipercross air filter can be cleaned and usually gets re oiled afterwards, you can buy the kit.

It’s the age old discussion over whether or not to (potentially) pay “the TVR tax” from a TVR specialist or not.
I often do (within reason), based on two points -
1) I feel that a service history with bills from “TVR” agents looks a lot better than one full of “Joe’s Auto’s”.
And
2) supporting TVR specialists could mean they’re more likely to be around when you need that TVR bespoke or hard to find part, when your local motor factor draws a blank.

Just my two-pennies worth......

I agree with this.
I tend to use local factors for obvious things but stay with Tvr specialists for pretty much everything else.
It’s when you need specific things that are Tvr related do you realise how much some of these small firms have invested in Tvr Specific stuff which sits there sometimes for years before someone needs something. Chaps who restore these cars need their own supply of stuff that works, that’s why I use Powers most of the time. Saving a few quid is not worth loosing these valuable companies in my book but then I’m an enthusiast wink

I do use the specialists but the postage can be high on smaller items.
This is decent value, free postage too.

The package may be OK but no mention of the oil filter manufacturer. I prefer to know that a decent oil filter is fitted there are some poor ones out there.

I'd ask but it's a Mahle in the picture.
Very good filters, Racetech shows a Fram in their service pack which I wouldn't touch with a bargepole these days from what I've read.

Spitfire your eyes are in better fettle than mine.

The "M" is just visible. Mahle produce first class products so the package looks very good value.

Mahle are an OE manufacturer, eg buy a 'genuine Ford' oil filter and inside the Ford box will be a Mahle filter... (this is what tickles me when car manufacturers insist that 'genuine' service parts are used... Ford don't make oil filters, any more than they make sparkplugs...which is Mr Bosch's job ).
But is that a 'genuine Mahle' oil filter? If the Chinese can flood the market with fake SKF bearings and fake NGK plugs, they sure as hell can do it with fake Mahle oil filters. So the same rule applies; buy only from a reputable and known official distributor of that brand.

This ^ and just to add never ever ever use a Crosland filter they was bought ot by Euro Car Parts years back (not the same trusted Crosland of old) and they kept the name but serve up cheap chinese st in Crosland packaging , I have witnessed 2 of their fuel filters fail in the most serious way one on a Merc's engine was drawing neat fuel from the built in fuel pressure regulator and flooding the engine massively the other was an external flaw the crimped end was leaking fuel (info/rep is out there online) like Mentioned Mahle inc UFI Mann Hengst Purflux Wix are all trusted brands
