Hi all,
I have a 10 year (10) Golf Tsi which has been ultra-reliable for its lifetime but recently the car developed a ticking sound in idle so at my last service at the main VW main dealer i asked them to take a look. And they responded that "Noise from flywheel noise goes when clutch pressed requires flywheel would strongly recommend new clutch kit whilst gearbox is out" and this would cost £1300. This to me seems quite steep and is now quite a percentage of the residual worth of the car. Is this cost too high?
thanks

you're taking a 10 year old car to a VW main dealer - everything is going to be expensive.

Find a good, local VW group indie, take it there for a 2nd opinion.

If yours is a 6 speed the engine may need swung off its mounts to clear space for the gearbox to drop down, resulting in approx 5hrs labour. If it doesn't it will be about 3hrs labour.

Clutch and flywheel kit, plus release bearing (probably source of your ticking) should be about £350 for Sachs/LUK parts..

As last chap said, try a trusted independent VW / VAG specialist!smile

Cars depreciate, the cost of the repairs remain constant.

Your comment about the percentage value of repairs compared to value of the vehicle holds no logical sway whatsoever.
