Help to buy car. £4000, digital speedometer, 4 door pe Sedan

Dear PHers,

My friend is looking for a car.
Budget £4000.
Petrol.
Manual transmission is preferred though automatic can be taken if loaded with features and will choose based on condition.

Requires digital speedometer (very important)
4 door Sedan.
Ride quality can be on comfort side, not much driver oriented.
Engine size doesn't matter but should not be thirsty without performance.

He had selected insignia 2.0 diesel but I said since his yearly mileage is less than 12000 miles and has small runs too, a peppy petrol would be fine which is easy to sell later.

If friend didn't want to limit themselves too much there are devices that can stick on top of dash etc with digi speed readout?

(Satnav or Road Angel or similar)

For that money, I'd say go for a MK4 Mondeo. With that sort of annual mileage I'd go for the 2.0 petrol (Duratec HE) engine. It'll be pretty much bomb proof. As always with this type of car, pick it based on service history and condition rather than a particular trim level / colour / spec!

If don't mind me asking, why is a digital speedo so important? Know it's not a sedan but Honda Civic has a digital speedo.

Could you get something from VAG group at 4K with the modern MFD. They should have a speedo display option on the MFD. Mine all have over the years.

He is more towards fuel economy with comfort. So wouldn't it be better to have less than 2.0 litre. Or 2.0 litre max.

Thanks for the idea. He is fine... From £15 it's available. How to pick something which is reliable and accurate. Some are above £100. Worth? Anyone used?

Seems cool but rejected coz it's not much accepted in market. Didn't see petrol c6 in autotrader.

Interesting, can see viewpoint. Points on licensee already?

Other option is something with a limiter, or Cactus would let you set a top speed which kinda worked for 30/40mph zones.

That is a crazy reason to require a digital speedo. Learn to control the car at the correct speed!

Sounds like he doesn’t have enough special awareness to be out on his own. If he needs to look at a big digital speedo 100% of the time, how is he able to look out the windows and see where he’s going?
