Tyres used in record-breaking runs?

Were the tyres used in the 4 record-breaking runs standard factory-issue Goodyear F1 Fioranos?

Yep. I think it was mentioned on the official press release somewhere.

There was nothing unusual or special about the car used for the runs...well apart from having a crazy powerful engine but event hen there are quite a few people who have bought similar spec one since. Of course I'm sure the tyres, dampers, suspsension and wing were all adjusted to get the best possible result. In theory anyone with a GTR should be able to replecate the lateral grip and braking numbers. There is the issue of driving talent of course...

Sorry find it hard to believe! I think there must be more than meets the eye. The standard tyres wouldn't grip that well.

Don't know about the other tyres you can get for Ultimas but the stock Goodyears are amazing beasts. They seem to give decent wear rates on the public highway. Once you get them on track though they do sticky up quite nicely front and back...there is a lot of grip in that rubber. Kudos to Goodyear.

They get sticky on the road as well. When I return from a run out I pull straight back into the garage (electric door) next time I go to move the car the tyres rip the paint of the garage floor.

sorry to be such a noob but did Richard and Ted use a standard Porsche G50 trans. as well?

I didn't know the G50 can take 685bhp?

a G50 in an Ultima will never be 'standard' as you have to fit inverted kits etc as they are upside down in an Ultima!

beefing up the internals is usually just a matter of optimising the choice of box and std porsche parts, thats certainly what I did in my car.

I'd therefore be amazed if the box wasn't chosen wisely in this car and as long as the tyres were proper road legal ones it doesn't matter.

I am on Goodyear F1 fiornos cause my experiement with Kumhos lasted 300 miles until they wore out ..

The Kumhos were bought in May post records before any of you wondor...

Only 300 miles, now thats some driving.... One track day only tyres then... I think Pee has the same tyre but he has done at least over 100 miles so far...

My Kumho's are excellent, they get stickier quicker and the grip is fantastic, i've done 800 track miles and just swopped them on the rims so they have the potential to double that!
If you only got 300 Gareth, you must do a lot of burn-outs or your geometry is out of whack

Mine have been realy good aswell. Would recomend them to anybody and they last better than any others I've tried for track and road use and they are very progressive when they start to go off.

You might want to check your geomotry out or stop hanging out with Nova drivers wheelspinning.

Incorrect heat cycling (break in) of certain racing tires can cause premature wear. Do the Kumos in question fall into that category?
