Potential universal credit fraud
Discussion
Any experts in the house regarding Universal Credit? The reason I ask is I suspect a rather unsavory character my missus has had previous dealings with is fraudulently claiming.
He was released from prison over 8 months ago (for the sort of thing that gets you put on the sex offenders register) and within weeks of being released and on licence transferred £20000 out of his bank account to his sister which put him under the £6000 ceiling for U/C.
He is in receipt of approx £900 per month U/C, £155 pcm invalidity benefit which has been deducted from his U/C claim. Also he is in receipt of a pension from the NHS of £850 pcm as he was pensioned off early in 2002 for a work related injury however started back for the NHS in the same job some years later and continued contributing to the newer NHS pension scheme and continued to receive the earlier pension but avoided getting clarification of if he could or couldn't keep receiving it on purpose. He can no longer work for the NHS due to his conviction but plays on no longer being fit to work but was prior to being arrested and then sent to prison.
We have documentary proof of his extra income and the transfer of funds etc. All documents were obtained all legal and above board for a separate matter which is when the potential issue of a fraudulent claim came to light.
We fully intend to do the right thing and inform U/C of his dealings but first want to be 100% sure of is he entitled to receive such an amount of pension and Universal Credit for such an amount. Their fraud line is off at the moment so bar just reporting him we can't be sure if he is in the wrong or not.

Some pensions and compensation payments are disregarded for benefits or UC purposes when it is injury/disability based, so without doing proper research on his pension, that side of it may be legal.
Hiding or disposing of savings to get under the benefit limits is a specific issue in its own rights and there are strict rules what you can and cant do.

Why are you getting involved in your ex's financial affairs, especially if they are a wrongun?
Not my ex I don't swing that way but horses for courses etc. He's pleading poverty and being on U/C as an excuse to screw someone out of a lot of money that he doesn't deserve. He's arrogant enough to think he's too clever to be caught out just like he was when he was arrested in a police sting trying to meet kids for sex! Now I don't see why anyone should be able to swindle the benefits system so blatantly without risk never mind a parasite like him. That's why I am looking for information regarding the U/C system before proceeding.
Or maybe buy a mask and a cape and patrol the rooftops of the City by night.
OP, the law does not exist for you to settle your personal scores. You won't gain closure or happiness from your vendetta. If you think that there is a legit beef, report it to those whose job it is to investigate such things, and move on.

Whilst the OP should not be looking to pursue this beyond alerting the authorities and providing them with whatever information that he might have that is exactly what he should do if, on reflection and standing back from emotion, he has clear and verifiable information as to someone who is illegally or fraudulently claiming benefits, or indeed any form of government assistance.
OP the words i have not seen anyone provide you with as yet and which you need to ensure are in your report are "Intentional deprivation of capital." it is a phrase more commonly used when dealing with those who can afford, but still try to shirk, their responsibility for paying for their care in later life but is a good one in the government world of bulls
t bingo that it should raise an eyebrow.Unlike many who seem to think of the great big government socialist pot of gold that never runs dry i am well aware of the amount of tax i pay and have enough problems with those who are legally allowed to waste it to just ignore those that i can see illegally wasting it.
I am also acutely aware that, as we have seen with CV, when people fail to play by the rules without real consequence the rules just get harder and worse and primarily adversely affect those that actually played by them, leading to those that were once on message becoming belligerent.

Yea but there is very little recourse for benefit fraud recent case of Pakistan lady, mother of 8 claimed benefits for people who moved back to Pakistan while they were living back there for years and she 98k over payments.Hiding or disposing of savings to get under the benefit limits is a specific issue in its own rights and there are strict rules what you can and cant do.
She is going on a course to prove its a victimless crime!

So what is the justice if you have a criminal record or are just a career benefit claimant, lie get the cash get your wrist slapped and more benefits when caught.

If this is just an: "unsavory character my missus has had previous dealings with", and (I'm assuming) your "missus" no longer has dealings with, why are you getting so involved?, and where are you getting all his financial information from? TBH, it sounds as though you're on a personal vendetta against this guy, to make his life as uncomfortable as possible, and trying to take the law into your own hands, to try to punish him further for his past crimes.
If you think he's committing fraud, then report it to the appropriate authority, and let them investigate it, and deal with it, before you become obsessed with it all (or even more obsessed, as it seems you're pretty obsessed already!).
The path that you're following right now, seems a little unhealthy to me.

In modern times unless you part of left wing group and virtue signalling then don't stand up or do anything as the media and state will strike you down.If you go to the pub with more than 6 mates bang thats wrong.
If you go to Dover to protest about uncontrolled illegal immigration, the media lable you a far right neo-nazi wrong again.
You go to london as 200 plus extension rebellion group and block ambulances you get a free pass!
You commit crimes under the BLM banner and have an organised protest of 1000s you get a free pass.

Universal Credit is so easily available and generous to those who know how to play the system I suspect it's actually quite difficult to commit UC fraud.
I would disagree, if your a single parent or have a disability yes! Single man fit and of working age its tight money wise, what I was offered for being out of work for the first time in 15 years was a slap in the face and was NOT £900 a month this clown is getting!
I have to house my kids 50% of the time but UC is black and white and said they don't live with you 100% of the time so jog on! They pay child benefit to the Mother so I got nothing and was treated as a guy with no responsibilities.

Are you as hot to trot about tax fraud? That's the real big money stuff. Benefit scallies get away with peanuts in comparison with tax scamsters.
Why are you attempting to derail the thread by throwing a curve ball?In this country you can't have a view on one topic without someone trying to argue with you on another.
Why not use your experience to start a thread name tax avoidance tax evasion!
You can always present your evidence but normally when doctors are involved in decisions re benefits, the DWP is very wary of investigations.
The idea is the doctor will not allow one so as not to stress the (disabled) patient. If so, it is rare the DWP then goes against the advice unless the case is incredibly clear cut.
