First electric guitar and amp.

As the title infers,I want to buy my son his first electric guitar and amp but I know nothing about them.
Can you recommend a decent guitar and amp that won’t break the bank for an absolute beginner?

The Yamaha Pacifica starter kit would be a good kit to start with.

Yamaha Pacifica or Squier Stratocaster. Or possibly an Epiphone of he likes that style.

Yamaha are a big-name instrument maker for over a century (if you look at their motorbikes, the logo is actually 3 crossed tuning forks)

Squier are the budget arm of Fender

Epiphone the budget arm of Gibson

Steer clear of things like Encore, Stagg or other no-name manufacturers, you'll probably end up with unplayable st. Most average players, especially new ones will never notice or care about the difference between an "adequate" and "top level" guitar, but the gulf between a bad one and an adequate one can be huge.

I'm a decent rhythm player (after 25 years of not properly applying myself!) and I still have a great time playing my Squier strat with the cheap humbuckers I butchered into it a decade ago.

I started with a Pacifica they are good

Recently did this research for a friend and found the ibanez grg/grx to be very good, not something they will outgrow so quickly.
