Amazon scam phone calls

7 calls today from the Amazon subscription scammer. Caller ID shows a different number each time. I block the number, hour later another call from a new number.
Working from home, I'm used to getting one or two scam/robot calls a day, but 7 in one day with exactly the same recorded message is a bit much.
At least when it's a real person pretending to be from "Windows" or trying to sign me up to a new phone or internet provider I can wind them up or swear at them.
I don't even have the option to ignore the calls, as it might be a genuine customer calling me.

I find they come in waves even when it's different scams - it's like they all originate from the same place.
It seems incredible to me that phone carriers don't block these calls.
For billing purposes they surely have to know the authentic number the call originates from? If they're through a dodgy VoIP service then just block them all until the provider sorts themselves out.

I just bought one of the BT phones with call blocking. Apart from numbers in the address book it blocks everything, The caller has to say their name and press #1, it then rings and if I answer it states who called and I can accept or reject. You can also do the usual blocking of individual numbers, call types etc
Seems to work, gone from (usually) 4 or more scam calls a week to zero.

TPS doesn’t eradicate the issue but goes a long way to reduce unwanted calls too

I signed up for TPS many years ago, and it does seem to work for UK-based business to domestic cold-callers. I haven't had a sales call about double glazing or whatever for ages.
Unfortunately, TPS doesn't help with business to business cold calls (I am home-based for my business), so I still get calls offering me business land-line and internet deals, etc.
I did think about getting one of those general call-blocking devices, but I fear it may put off or confuse potential customers - a lot of my customers are quite old.
The cure for this problem should be very simple - make it illegal for businesses to hide or spoof their phone number. Surely BT's exchange equipment can see where the call is coming from?
