Citroën C4 cuts out when revving.

My partner's C4 (2012) has just failed its Mot as the emissions test could not be completed. When revving the engine it cut out and now runs only for a few minutes at a time.

The code reader is showing codes 7e8 and 7e9.

Any ideas? Or is it time to go shopping?

Who’s code reader showed those?
Those codes are just names for a subsection of the obd system. 7e8 is engine I think.
It should be a case of selecting one of those sections and click enter or whatever, which will take you through to the menu for that specific part of the car and show any actual error codes stored. The error codes will start with P.

Once you have those you can start doing some more accurate fault finding.

It was a cheap code reader from the garage, he's a proper old school mechanic, so little in the way of electronic bits and pieces.

The RAC guy said it was the EGR valve which needs replacing.
