After consulting with the good people of the Republic of Piston Heads, I settled on a Mazda MX-5.

It’s used approved and in Solihull. About a 6 hour drive from me.

The vehicle deposit and order was placed on Wednesday this week. So four days prior to this post date.

I am somewhat loathed to proceed with the order due to ambivalent engagement from the dealer.

I have requested a video and vehicle condition report three times now and each time: “We’ll send it to you by end of the day or tomorrow.”

Vehicle delivery has been arranged for this coming Wednesday.

Slow down! I haven’t even seen the vehicle in person or had any other information. Apparently it has also been for ‘prep’ where one tyre was replaced.

The V Check is clear.

Looking at valuations online the car could be sold for £2,500 more so it seems like a bargain.

Without further a do, to my question. Can I withdraw my order?
Things don’t feel right at all with the process. The advert has been removed from their site so is that for me or surreptitiously sold to someone else: “We’re sorry my colleague had already sold the vehicle.”

What ever is one to do?! I shall get off my soap box now.

Ps. The site says click here to access our terms and conditions but there are none online. The vehicle order form states something about being legally bound to the transaction upon signing. I sent this on the proviso the vehicle was of suitable condition. However, with reports and videos... based on that I’d happily go see it in person.

Currently they have no particular incentive to get you the report. Tell them that without the video and condition report by end of play Monday you will cancel the order. I bet it turns up pretty damn quickly.

I'm confused by the above statement, of course the advert has been removed, you've bought it!

If I understand correctly, you've never set foot in the dealership, if that is the case then yes you can pull out, under Distance Selling regs, however in normal circumstances of you having visited the dealer then no, there is no "cooling off period".

Tell them on Monday morning, you want what you've asked for, of which they've said the will provide, by x time and if they aren't forthcoming, then you want your deposit back, I'd go direct to the sales manager too as clearly the salesman can't be arsed.

Yes that’s the vibe I get. Just not bothered to sell or in no hurry. I checked my bank statement the deposit was never taken.

Videos don’t really help. We bought a car online recently. Two videos showing it all nice and shiny. When it arrived the door sill looked like it had been painted with an emulsion brush and was full of surface corrosion underneath.
The must have forgotten to include that when they filmed the car.

Only using the video 360 to try and establish whether it is worth the travel to get the car.

I’d walk away from this one. If it feels wrong, it usually is......

Ask for your deposit back and find another one.
