I (having an economics background) would agree fundamentals are key and understanding of more complex nuanced theory and aspects does not totally invalidate 101 theory.

I have also studied economics, and would agree a decent grasp of some of the basics would be a good thing.

However

- I would say there's nothing more dangerous than someone who has sat through their first politics lesson! I also studied that at A level and God, the self righteousness was epic

- the author (like most economists) completely ignores things they don't see as important

- IE why should human behaviour be rationalised? People support minimum wage because of their political views...people prefer to buy things made in their country because of politics. You could spout economics at them until you're blue in the face...

If someone supported minimum wage after taking into account the effect on employment then I agree, but some people just don't recognise there is any effect.

Similarly an alarming number of people believe on buying things made in their own country because of a misapprehension that buying from abroad somehow removes wealth from the country.

I suspect that a desire to take politics or economics courses should ban you for life from talking about either to others.
