Another driver spotted me holding my phone

Hi guys,
I was driving on the motorway (70mph with cruise control in middle lane as trucks were on the left lane) and was holding my phone in my right hand as I was in a messenger call (with both hands on the wheel - handheld was connected in bluetooth) - I know, I'm an idiot, more on that later: Another car started to overtake me, and honked at me, I look on my right, guy is driving with one hand, and his left arm is straight pointing toward me with a phone. I ignore him as on the moment I don't quite understand what he wants, he drives off.
Later I realized that he was probably filming me because I had a phone in my hand. Maybe that this person was filming me - and given the fact his left arm was straight, he could argue that a passenger was filming. I read that people can upload video of evidence of careless driving (and that includes using/holding a phone in a car). What are my chances of actually receiving anything? Or was the guy simply trying to scare me (that worked)?
On the positive side, I now know a lot more about holding mobile phones while behind the wheel as I've been reading about it for the last 2 hours and will be anxious about it for the next few weeks waiting for a devastating fine that might never arrive.

First of all, you're an idiot for using your phone while driving. The good news is, you know this, and will hopefully learn from the experience and will never do the same again. Noone was hurt, which isn't the case every time.
I highly doubt you'll recieve anything, but if you do, take it on the chin. You deserve the fine and points. If not, count your lucky stars.

Whenever I’m back in London I’m always surprised by how many people are on their phones given the severe penalty if caught. Out here in Dubai or Moscow people are permanently glued to them as the penalty is tolerable and it’s rarely enforced. The UK has the right approach as it does does cause a significant proportion of the accidents out here.
I really don't see any reason for holding a phone in your car after getting into the car and putting your phone in the glove box.

No excuses now after the rules have been in place for so long. If your in the driving seat, moving, no excuse, no, "But I was only using it to scratch my arse, nose, armpit!" (delete as appropriate)
DCWs can FRO though, usually as much to blame for incidents IMHO. As another poster stated, if he was filming you he's a pillock as well!

To be honest, I didn't expect people to not roast me for being stupid on the road.
We share roads, if I hold my phone I'm statistically more dangerous, hence endangering other people's lifes. So everyone should be angry at me really.
I'm not finding excuses, I shouldn't have done that, simple as that.

When I was in Kuwait a few years back I got the impression that it's against the to drive without being on the phone, certainly didn't see many people who weren't.I'm currently in a wrong hand drive car and I keep wondering if people will spot my Mrs sat in the passenger seat on her phone before they see the lack of steering wheel

To contribute to the general PH vibe: OP you're a MONSTER and shouldn't be allowed to drive. I bet your car has electronic ignition and hydraulic brakes too rather than a proper system with points and cable brakes like a real man would have, I personally believe that if you cannot feel the weave of the brake cable moving inside the sleeve when stopping it's not a real car. People you you are ruining motoring, mobile phones are the work of the devil, bring back Trabant etc.

Numerous Police forces now encourage members of the public to send them video footage of other drivers breaking the law, and they regularly do prosecute based on the footage.
Other forces will be less interested.

Loving this ongoing idea that by somehow holding your phone while having a conversation you're less engaged in driving than if it's in a cradle. You aren't fully engaged in driving while on the phone in the car full stop.
People can and do drive one handed legally all the time. The fact that they've made doing so while holding a phone illegal isn't actually addressing the core problem of being distracted BECAUSE YOU'RE ON THE fkING PHONE! You aren't thinking about driving, you're thinking about the call. Until this simple fact sinks in, it makes a mockery of the whole phones in cars law. It was, as usual, a kneejerk, badly thought out reaction by people who need to be seen to be doing " something ".

we survived and functioned before the damn things , and yes I know the world as changed since then
