pros and cons of the above anybody.

have owned a saab convertible and like the true wind in hair sensation, but also think targa is a better looking car, less claustrophobic etc, would appreciate any tips, experiences etc, have driven a targa briefly and have to admit the rear view with the roof open was somewhat weird

looking to spend around 25K if anybody knows of any likely suspects, needs to be a tiptronic

cheers

I can't talk about comparisons with the cabriolet because I haven't driven one. However, I've been very pleased with my Targa Tip S. I agree that the rear view is a bit compromised when the roof is right back, but it's liveable with if your other mirrors are properly adjusted.

The huge open top is not only nice when the weather's good - it also provides a beautifully light interior at all other times. I also think it looks great!

I happen to like Tiptronics, though they're not everyone's cup of tea. They're particularly good in today's heavy traffic and make for relaxed motoring, with a spirited oomph available when needed. The steering wheel switches are also very neat and effective.

Feel free to email me via my profile if you have any specific questions.

From "the other side" I can personally vouch for the cabiolet, without having had any experience of the targa. It's true wind in your hair, as you were saying and although it's not as refined as most modern convertibles (roof down, the roof is all visible rather than hidden away, more wind noise/disturbance than most), what some regard as faults others see as its character.

If you want to reduce the wind disturbance I understand the wind deflectors are pretty effective and if you want a neater look roof-down, there's a cover you can put over it. Me, I've used neither and love it just as it is.

Whichever you get your sure to love it - happy hunting!

Ocho's right - you'll love whatever you end up getting. I looked at some cabs, but I ended up choosing a Targa bcs:

1) I liked the fact I could close the roof at any speed. (the 996 has the open/close while driving feature)

2) Much more practical in the winter. Top down, heat on is lovely.

3) Better all round visibility given the Targa's rear quarterlight (you get used to the rear view with the roof back eventually)

4) Stiffer body feel than the cab

5) Most importantly, the cab just doesn't have the 911 roofline. And that's a big deal for me...

Oh, and have a look here:

All that said...mine's for sale! Check the classifieds...

have currently got a 993 Targa...

although it is on the chassis.. so you still do get the scuttle shake.. the glass roof does firm things up and if you add a strut brace that helps even more.. but still no coupe...

the roof helps being more light in and the extra headroof is also a bonus....

roof down there isn't much visibility out back...

although there are time where a cab is better as per recent weather... but then again the targa's ability means you will have the rof down more often than in a cab..

wind noise is much reduced over a cab but still no coupe...

if something goes wrong.. seal.. motor..glass, etc repairs are ******* expensive but not much ever does !

over a cab it is more of an all round all year car.....

and with those classic 993 looks you can't go wrong !

doesn't driving at speed (eg motorway) without the cover damage the roof?
