Well - I've done Lotus, TVR etc and have finally made it to 911 status!

Just signed on the line for a Aerokit Silver 2000W 996 C2 with 18" Turbos which I pick up next Saturday.

Impressed with the chaps at Cridfords in Ripley - and a good price.

Seems like a straight enough, 2 owner car - if anyone knows different, let me know!! V1 JBC or similar - though that's a private plate that's coming off.

cheers!!

I think you can get Porsche to tell you what parts have been sold for that chassis? e.g. if its had a bumper and new wings all round you know it needs careful inspection!

I was test driving a GT3 today and the salesman was talking about that. Not sure if only the dealers can see that though.

How do you find the Porsche compared to the Elise & TVRs? I was a bit underwhelmed by the GT3 I think (I've got a Noble at the moment & had an Elise before which is why I recongise you).

Thanks Dan. Been thinking about the move for a while - I still have a silly weekend car (the clue is in the log-in!) so no worries there.

I like the neutral, practicality of the 996 and obviosuly am drawn by the comfort and build. I just wanted something I can use every day and also thrash away from the lights every now an again. Don;t do that many miles to be honest, and rarely track, so not much to worry about there - besides, I'd use the 340 for that.

Don't pick it up til next week, so will post more impressions then. You loving the Noble?

cheers

It used to be possible to write to Porsche Cars GB and get confirmation of original spec. and whether it's been crash repaired etc.
They even did it for a German 964, and a 1976 car that I bought (although they have less info on foreign cars).

Thats wonderful service. Unless you are trying to sell on a car you've stacked

Bruce - enjoying the Noble, but thinking about the change to a GT3/2. Yesterdays test drive of the GT3 hasn't really swayed me though.

I guess the thing that did it for me is that it's a sports car which does everything I want it to, but it's built like a brick sh1t house!!

Everything just works - the window drop when you open the door is just so nice compared with my Tiv, which did it when it wanted to, whenever it wanted to and however low it wanted to

Ahh GT3 kits on standard 996s, I hope you are aware of the 3 cardinal rules concering this.

1- The car must not remain at standard 996 ride height

2- The car must not be badged GT3

3- The car must not retain standard 996 17" wheels

The penalty for each infringement im afraid is 100 lashes & then to be a slave in one of Derestictors workhouses for 1 month while a strike on all three counts is im afraid a lifetime of that, coupled to 100 lashes each day!

Harsh punishments indeed, but im afraid I don't make the rules and im sure you will agree, they are more than fair.

Sounds like a great purchase !!!!!

I bought mine from cridfords a couple of weeks back, and apart from a bit of messing about over the part exchange, the service seemed pretty good.

Enjoy !!!!!!!!!!

I assume thats only if the car has been pranged and been repaired by a main dealer? If it was repaired by Honest John's Bodyshop then I assume its not on the database.

Ressurecting old post, as I tried to find Cridfords today - does anyone know how the hell to get there, they are supposed to be on the High Street, but I couldn't see them anywhere!

Cheers

If you come into Ripley from London direction you will see a car sales place on the left opposite the Half Moon Pub. Turn left down just after the garage and Cridfords is on your left. Very small place with just a workshop.

Great, thanks, I'll try again another time - he seems to have a pretty big stock if it is such a small place though.
