UK+ analogies

Help me to build a picture I can explain to my children. I may be wrong on some (lots) of this.

Great Britain is the island that has Scotland, Wales and England in it. Probably some other order if you want to represent population/power/cricket.

But Scotland (and England for that matter) has other island stuff going on. Lots of it. Some of the Scottish islands are no longer so keen (Hola Shetland!).

And the Isle of Wight is the Free State of NHS CovidApp.

The Isle of Man is currently closed to man. Non-Man man, anyway. Or woman. Or LGBTQXCVHBJKHGCFVBNJK.

Despite having been to Jersey, Guernsey and the other one, I've never really understood how that works. If there's a war, do they fight with us*?

The Outer Hebrides/Western Isles/Innse Gall/Eilean Siar (help me out here - as a Scottish sailor I try to know the difference between mhor and beag but probably fail). Sentence ran out.

The United Kingdom seems to be composed of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. But the Outer Hebrides are part of Scotland and so should be part of Great Britain but by the definition of it being an island, that might not be so.

Orkney - you OK? Scillies- still pals?

Great Britain is the largest of the islands that makes up the British isles. British isles includes gb + Ireland (n &s) plus 6000 other islands according to google ?

that blithely and erroneously use the term England to describe the UK of GB and NI is ongoing.

So we shrunk when we joined the EU? And now we've left we've grown in size again?

Why wasn't this explained earlier, would have made everything a lot clearer
