Hoping someone can help here, please....

I have my small company and our email was originally bought from and goes through 123-reg. I have always used gmail as a means to collect this email and then send as required 'as an alias', also through gmail.

All was fine until GDPR came in and now the vast majority of what I send goes into spam/junk folders and often missed by the recipient causing delays for them. Even though I warn them of this, many still don't check each folder often enough.

I have gradually removed things from my email signature, images, links, even the 'Essex' part of our address because it contains a naughty word, but unfortunately it still plagues us. 123-reg cannot offer any useful solutions so I'm hoping this draws the attention of an IT whizzkid who might be able to help.

Fingers crossed!!

Hi Dan,

Is this for single emails or when you're trying to broadcast to a list?

Sending as an alias is reputationally damaging, doesn't matter what your mail says. Time to spend a little on an email service, whether that's M365 or Gsuite, or running your own hosted SMTP.

Single emails, never really use lists.

Happy to spend on a proper service, which would you recommend from those you list? I like the sound of doing it myself..

Personally I use Outlook365 which works very well.

I run an email company, for broadcasts to small lists i'd look at Klaviyo. That way you keep your work emails separate from your sales emails

I'd second this. Many spam filters don't like them. If you have to tell customers to do something different, you should do something different.

My colleague uses outlook and has the same issues I do.

I pay about £90/yr for the microsoft suite (word excel etc.) so I believe I have outlook but haven't tried it as I feel it may give the same issues (based on colleague's experience).

Absolutely happy to do something different, any alternatives to gsuite and microsoft? How do I go about hosting my own smtp, any guides available?

I use 123 Reg for my business domain hosting and had the same issues with their email service. I switched to MS Business 365, still used 123 Reg for hosting, and its great. No more lost emails and use of MS Teams, all the Office products and 1TB of cloud storage.

Wizemail.

There's a charge, but they are reasonable. I write for them, so I've got an iron in the fire. However, I know that what they do, they do extremely well, and for a price that's a bit lower than some of the other names out there.

No harm in asking.

I would recommend MS365. It's simple to setup from scratch and you can import your previous email too. Costs about the same price as a pint each month.

MS365 will always out perform free email on shared hosting plans like you have on 123reg as you have thousands of others sending email from the same IP address which will often mark the IP as spam.

More than happy to help as I migrate lots of businesses to MS365.

There are two main contenders for small business email hosting & office software: MS365 (used to be Office 365 & Google GSuite. Don't get confused between Outlook (which is just the programme/app you use to access your email) & the back-end engine (Exchange in the case of MS).

Business Standard is £112 a year

https://gsuite.google.com/pricing.html
Business is £99 a year

With either of these you can use your own domain name if you have one.

If your needs are very simple you could just set up a Hotmail or Gmail address & avoid the need to use the 123 email platform. Don't turn that off until you have got allo fo your clients contacting you on the new emailaddress.

Don't do this. It's so hard to do properly & much easier to use MS365 or GSuite
