Hi, I would appreciate any feedback on the 404M cam,Rob @ V8D. has just put a 5.5 in my Griff with a special cam he has had done ,but the thing is mental nothing below 2K .It has more lift than the 404 and should give high 370/380hp with my Group A twin plenum .
I was wondering if any one with a 404m could tell me whats its like to live with as Rob has said he will put one of these in as it does not have so much lift.

had the 404 then the 404Hydraulic in my twin plenum engine. the hydraulic was smoother and did not need adjusting every 500miles!!! the 404mechanical had more punch but got tappy quite quickly (tho mines a track car so was manily track miles)

i preferred the 404H as i lost little power but the engine stayed quieter for Much longer ie 10k ish

both are revvy cams tho, they come into their own 6k+ and i doubt you'd hit that!!! the height and dwell does lend itself to twin plenums or big capacity but i'd stay hydraulic with high rev lifters...trust me!)

but basically...anything Rob says is cool

could do with your 5.5 at the monster, as Rob can't run his beamer (not a Tiv you see )

Andy, thanks for the reply, the Griff is booked looking forward to showing Jon real V8 power!,Rob thinks it will be close, drove his PINK car @ LeMans and it goes like stink.
I think I will stick with a mecanical cam as I only do about 3K per year and I have the full Group A ajustable steel rockers. Its booked in @ Austec on 7th July for a RR session with Mark Adams so I should have some figures soon.

cool,

with group A rockers, there should be no tappy issues.

(should have known...if Rob built it...it would be proper )

glad to see you're on the day...hadn't noticed you there! should be fun!

Rob/Austec did my engine recently, a 5.3 with twin plenum, bosch injectors etc etc. For this setup he advised me to go for the hydraulic 404. I had the P404 before (with a knackered engine) which was rougher below 2000 rpm and sounded tappier. My 5.3 does 315 bhp and 350 lbs at the wheels (about 350 bhp and 380 lbs at the flywheel), with the engine not run in yet. Next to being very powerful, it's very smooth and revs freely.
I think your 5.5 should do around 360-370 bhp and some 400 lbs.
Ask Rob why he went for the P404 instead of the H404.

I had the P404 and put some miles on it, I found the tappets needed doing every second service, it revved well over 6k and was fine below 2k (I had a carb which made things smoother)
