I loathe HD for movies and certain TV. It makes stuff look like a cheap village theatre production, some art house C4 tripe from the 80s or Home and Away from the 90s.

Anyway, I’m clearly at odds with the world but I’ve dialled it out of the Samsung TV and gone into settings on Netflix to get rid of it and I had no problems with Amazon however they have suddenly started changing some shows to HDR with not alternatives.

For example, Boys has gone from being fun to practically unwatchable.

Does anyone know if you can get rid of HDR on Amazon? So far the only solution is to watch it on an iPad as that hasn’t changed!!

Thanks. Saw that but it all seemed very messy. What’s weird is that I don’t have the issue with another Samsung TV but I can’t work out what settings could be different and why one does it but the other doesn’t.

The service menu may let you change settings that aren't available through the normal menus.

You enter the service menu by a series of button presses, google is your friend.

Be careful as you can stuff up your TV!

HD nor HDR should make your image look like a soap opera, this is more likely down to an image processing setting in your TV.

Indeed. Properly calibrate the TV set before assuming HDR is the issue (because it isn’t).

DA you mention HD as well so it’s not really clear whats bugging you.

The situation you describe sounds like you have Auto Motion Plus turned on.

Thanks. That was one of the first things I turned off but for the new HDR shows on Amazon it’s exactly as if it’s back on. It’s only an issue with shows that have the HDR tag, which seems quite new.

Your TV might have additional settings for Auto Motion and HDR in the menu that are only accessible when you're watching that particular source.

This. Most HDR TVs will let you change the settings for SDR and HDR separately. I had to turn off all the motion settings in HDR - I really dislike the look too.
