Vans or cars with captain seats

Any ideas for vans or cars with front or first passenger row captains chairs?

Budget between 9k and 13k. Not interested in paying the tax on a transporter!

Most vans can have them fitted, a swivel base plate starts around £150.

A good friend of mine has a VW transporter and fitted an aftermarket swivel base to the front passenger seat (2 seat bench with separate captains chair drivers seat if I remember correctly). It has raised the height of the passenger seat quite a bit so that now another mate of mine who is an average size male adult can't see out of the front window properly and his head is pretty close to the roof lining.

It maybe not all aftermarket swivel mounts are equal but be aware before you go down that route.

I've been faffing around for 6 months looking at all the alternatives, VW Caravelle, Ford Tourneo Custom, Hyundai i800, Citreon Space Tourer etc. and wasn't really happy with any of them. I wanted something that had versatile seating that could be changed easliy.

I kept coming back to the Caravelle and had made my mind up, probably because of the swivel seats in the middle row. However, after looking and test driving a couple I was disappointed. Bit cramped inside, compared to rivals, not a pleasant driving experience, and ridiculously expensive.

Bought a Merc Viano yesterday. 6 seater, all captain chairs with a folding table. All back four chairs can slide the full length of the vehicle on runners and turn to be forward or reward facing, or removed individually if extra space needed. Just a simple case of unclipping from the runner and lifted out, 30 second job. Can't frankly it's brilliant, exactly what I've been looking for. It was considerably cheaper than the VW (well under half the price of an equivalent) drives far better and is roomier, more comfortable and more versatile inside. Feel like a bit of a minicab driver cruising about in it but, heyho, it is what it is.
