So a new series on Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman adventuring on ... electric motorcycles.
Apparently Harley Livewires.

Was all interesting until I saw this interview and their backup vehicles were Rivians.
I must say I'm intrigued.

Have no interest in getting another streaming service though.

I’ve just watched it.

It is going to be an epic trip, the bikes look spot on.

I have no idea how the pickups are going to make it, they were shells only two weeks before the start.

The range on the bikes is around 140 miles and no chargers were installed a week before they left.

It’s all bonkers and it’s fantastic.

Watching too. Watched long way round, long way down plus Charley Boorman's race to Dakar and 'by any means' through lockdown so was so pleased to see this series come up!

The Rivians look the part as do the bikes. The cold weather and infrastructure is going to be really challenging I'm sure.

Any legal way to see it without subscribing to another service? I've got no interest in Apple something...

I think Apple TV+ has a free trial available.
Also free for a year if you buy a new Apple device of some sort.

It’s of mild interest, but I really hate the drama they think they have, or try to create.

There are loads of people doing the pan-American highway, in all sorts of crappy vehicles. Including some guy on a Honda Cub.

Two rich guys with the factory backed Harley’s and Rivian’s and a huge support team is not a challenge.

Interesting bikes. 140 miles city range so will be less on highways. DC charging capability, but on the AC side it only seems to support 3kW.

The "aggressive" riding position doesn't look very comfortable for long distances.

I think the 100-something mile range on basically prototype EVs through south america gives you enough drama on it's own.
But I see where you're coming from. A lot of the time it's an issue with these programs.
The problem that a lot of these shows create for themselves is that they want X weeks of material out of X days of filming, hence the manufactured drama.
These guys do it for the fun of it, and they genuinely do a 20k+ km trip. Plenty of stuff to fill a season, especially with that many mandatory stops.

Not sure why they are bothering TBH as the technology is clearly in no way suited to the task

70mph range of 70 miles, mixed range of 90-100 miles max and an hour to fully charge the battery on DC according to reviewsof the livewire?

Based on that for every hour they ride they'll be charging for 45 minutes minimum. Sounds horrendous.

From what i've seen and gather, both the HD's and the Rivians were prototypes when this was filmed. The HD Livewire is now on sale but wasn't then, also, these two bikes are not standard Livewires, they're designed and adapted to more of an adventure style bike especially for this trip.

The Rivian was basically a clay model a few weeks before the trip, for them to build them, with no factory, as that was also not built is amazing.

I think HD and Rivian were very brave and it's a big gamble for them, if the vehicles work, and looking at them, they look like they will, it's an outstanding move by both companies.

Whilst the range anxiety can be a little grating, the trip looks amazing and nice to see them back on bikes together.

Which is fine, but the pickups are electric as well.

I love road trips, me and a mate drove a TVR to Africa a few years ago, so things like this are right up my street.

If it was easy it wouldn’t be a challenge.

I'd hope the challenge was rather more interesting than simple range anxiety and where to find a DC charger, but whatever turns you on I suppose.

And still an hour of charging for every 60-90 minutes of riding. And as above, they then need to charge the pickups more often.

It is, the trip itself would have been hard no matter how the bikes or pickups are powered.

Looking forward to seeing some epic scenery and stories from people they meet on the way.

The electric side of it just brings in another element while raising the awareness of EV powered vehicles, at the end of the day if these two can ride from South America to LA, the folks like me in Surrey don't have much of an argument hehe

I agree with comments too much of the episodes so far are about range anxiety and charging issues. Shame

Anybody know if any of their earlier stuff is on a streaming service? I want to watch them all, I don't have Apple TV+

Apart from an old broken Magic Mouse we have no Apple stuff.

Yep. Not seen any of it but was pretty obvious that was going to be the case and not going to help with EV adoption as just plays into the 'They must do 500 miles between chargers before I'd consider one' mindset.

Just seems a pointless gimmick to justify doing another show as everyone knows this kind of thing is the Achilles heel of EV's, especially ones with such pathetic range.
