I’ve just got my new toy, a Griff 500, its great and ran fine all the way from Cornwall today but its now getting hot, the second fan isn't working, I’ve tested it and its not got any power to it, the first fan is working fine. Where is the otter switch? Does it have a separate fuse for each fan?

Older cars have one fuse, one relay. Newer cars have two fuses, two relays. Older cars have the otter on the swirl tank, newer cars on the radiator. However if one fan is coming on the otter is ok.

Some older cars were modded by the dealers. My '96 car has 2 relays/fuses

Fuse box is most likely, seen a couple, very expensive i believe. You can take a supply from the starter motor, use a relay that is triggered by the working fan, much cheaper.

When u say early, how early do u mean.
No one has mentioned trying the Horn as this is usually on the same fuse as the right hand(i think) FAN, if it is this one then probly the fuse.
Also i once had a problem with the connector near the fans as this is subjected to water comming through when its wet it had corroded enough to cause a bad connection.

There are about 5 different fan arrangements that I have details for the new book. They are generally date related +/- a couple of years. If the fan is dead then check fuses or the connector. Details should be in the handbook.

I had similar problems. Bother fuses fine, otter switch fine, etc.

Turned out to be the connectors near the fan. It is very common for these to be tucked under the fan housing where it is a bit damp and the connectors corrode / rust. I used a fine file to clean off the corrosion, gave it a good squirt of electrical contact cleaner and reassembled. Cured the problem instantly.
