Could Sevenoaks villages in Kent have 30mph >25mph

"District councillors first suggested a 25mph restriction until they discovered this does not exist under current UK laws.
"
So even they think 20mph is too slow....
Which raises an interesting question does 15mph/5mph?
Nope, I don't think any limits exist below 20mph, speedos don't work too well at really low speeds. They're then in increments of 10mph up to 70. Again a lot of speedos only have 10mph markings so accurately judging a 5mph point would be hard.
Just shows the level of competence of people that set the speed limits though doesn't it? If they don't even know what they CAN set, how are they supposed to be able to judge what limit would be appropriate?

Anyone got a reference for that?
All the TSRGDs say is whole numbers of MPH.
I'm sure I did see something about it a couple of years back, but I've never been able to find it gain.
Just floating this without any authorative back up.
LA can make a Speed Order. They generaly do 20,30,40 etc. What is there to stop them making a 25 mph limit?
25mph sign, as JA states, does not feature in TSG Directions so currently unlawful. But it doesn't mean that it would be unlawful. It would require special approval from our darling Sec of State to become an authorised sign. So if Order made and special authorisation, bingo.
Seem to recall seeing a 10 mph speed limit in a temporary traffic regulation roadworks Order whilst being convoy escorted by one of those quad bikes?

See above, I guess I didn't make it clear.
However, assuming that it did come down to special authorisation, I can see why the DfT wouldn't want to go down that road.
25 MPH here, 27 there etc.
That said, up until a few years ago, I would have said the chances of it happening were zero.
Under the current lot, anything seems to be possible.

Doesn't mean it was legal.
I am aware of a case where the contractors were 'allowed' (they did ask) by the local authority to put up 670 roundels. It was too late to get an order, but they were 'allowed' nonetheless. They were told that it couldn't be enforced, though.
That totally misses the point; a 670 sign is only permitted to be put up under the TSRGDs to where there is a bona fide ststutory limit.
