Hello,

Just picked up a temporary lease car today, Q2 S-Line petrol.

The steering is crazy heavy in and no different in comfort to dynamic. My previous car (BMW 340i Msport) was not as heavy as this even in sport mode.

Anyone got experience of these, are they generally like this or does it sound like their is a problem with the power steering / electronics.

I'm thinking something isn't right, can't imagine something like a Q2 would have heavier steering than a sports car.

Appreciate advice, will have to go straight back to company on Monday.

Cheers,

HBT

Maybe it was accidentally flashed with the R8 steering profile at the factory? Jokes aside, best to just take it back to them and voice your concerns.

How heavy are we talking - like no assistance or some assistance?

biggrin

Shame they didn't put the V8 in there too!

It does feel like there is some assistance once you start to put lock on. When it's at it's worst is in a straight line, particularly at speed making small adjustments.

Normally on m/way I drive with one elbows supported on door and hand on wheel, and the other on the centre rest, with a finger or two on the bottom, so it's more relaxing but can still grab wheel with both hands quickly if required.

And it was starting to make my wrist and neck ache after a few hours.

But there is not change in feel from Dynamic to Comfort. Not familiar with Audi S-Line systems, does the drive mode adjust steering waiting too?

I can't find any settings to adjust the steering.

Thanks for replies.

My Wife has a Q2 Sport and the steering is very light. There are 2 or 3 settings for the steering in the Drive Assist menu, along with engine power delivery but they make little difference - and the engine setting seems to make no difference?

Sounds like something's wrong to me.

Thanks mate. What year is that out of interest?

I think it might have changed recently, this is a 2020 S-Line with the 999cc engine, had 6 miles on the clock when I picked it up, now has 350.

I've been into the physical handbook and it only states under 'steering' that the variable adjusting system changes by the speed and depending in which drive mode you're in, i.e. comfort & dynamic. Looks like it's all automatic now.

In driving modes, you can select individual, but only gives you option to have 'comfort' steering. And doesn't give any option to change the drive mode weirdly. No other menus to change the steering, comfort it the lightest.

I've just tested it again now, you can tell the difference between dynamic and comfort at lower speeds, but not by a big degree. The main problem is at higher speeds with small inputs at motorway or dual carriage way cruising, where it just seems overly heavy, that must be the dynamic adjustment to make it heavier at higher speeds. But it does generally feel much heavier than I'd expect for a lifestyle type cross over hatch back.

Recently I've driven a lot of hire cars, Fiesta/Focus ST-Line, various hateful Vauxhall cross over cars all with similar 1.0l turbo charged petrol engines and all of them had very light steering feel.

I've actually got a Civic Type R track car, with a LSD and that has heavy steering, but I think even that feels a bit less than this on the m/way. biggrin

It's a pain because I've got it on a 28 day rolling rental with a view to give it back at the end of the term, and any warranty issue is to be sorted by local dealer. Been over to them this morning and as you'd expect have a 3.5 week minimum wait time.

So will probably just have to put up with it.

Thanks for responses though!!

Checked the power steering fluid?

I’d mention it, just in case they blame you once you hand it back.

Would not have thought so, but this one def doesn't have all the options you mention.

Thanks for taking the time to respond. Appreciate it.
