A14 cameras - A1 to M11

Just got home from Nottingham to Essex.

Left there at 1am, came down the A1, via the A14 to the M11. Got here at just after 3am.

Very little on the roads, was mostly in the inside lane unless passing an HGV.

Speed crept up a bit, not me, but my mate who was doing the same journey at the same time was hovering around an indicated 90mph, so likely an actual 85.

Does anyone know if the cameras on the A14 between the A1 and M11 are currently active? My mate said nothing flashed up on Waze but they don't always identify average speed zones.

He will take it on the chin if so - caught fair & square.

Would also offer up that the UK speed limit is ridiculously outdated, with stopping distances calculated when we all had cross-ply tyres and drum brakes.

That's another argument though.

No, not yet. I know the cameras going the other way have signs saying ‘camera not in use’ on every camera site. The signs going westbound seem to be a little hit n miss with some cameras having them and others not

Your friend needs a Road Angel Pure or the like... always up to date and with ‘live’ average speed data - in fallible if he doesn’t mind the subs every month

Those cameras are definitely flagged in Waze. The first one W to E was missing but hey are all in their now. Whether they are turned on or not I'm not brave (stupid) enough to check

I suspect that the better braking systems we have nowadays is counterbalanced by the fact that cars are now twice as heavy as then.

And unfortunately the decision making process as to when to employ the braking system is still exactly the same as it was then! (probably worse due to all the modern day distractions).

I think they had reviewed all this, and found that braking distance had shortened, but thinking distance had increased (reduced concentration).
