996 prices again!!
Discussion
Hiya
There has been alot of talk here recently about the hit tt prices have taken.
I've been looking at the ones for sale for the last 6ish months. They seem to have levelled out to me ie early 2000 cars were low 50s then and are still low 50s now(from independants)
Anybody else agree?
obviously it maybe different for later cars ie 2004/5 but this does'nt apply to me

I too have been pondering 996 TT prices since before purchasing my 996 c4 (still in repair
)..
I've seen the 996 prices generally come down about 10% over last 6months, the TT does seem to be loosing more relatively.. the C4S seems to be ahead of the falls at mo..
I def. think the 993 TT is bucking the trend though, so I wouldnt be suprised to see the 996 TT hit these prices quicker than the 993 TT did...
997 TT will be the catalyst for further drops across the range though as 996 TT/997 c2/s owners jump ship, and alot of 996 c2/c4 owners pickup on the the 997 c2/s bargains...
Its always a killer to say, right, thats it, this car is enough , as like most Porsche owners, you only generally get to this marque if you've got the 'must have' mentality, whether its for tech/driver reasons, or next toy!...

Hi
Just to let you know I had to return my 2001 996 C4 Cab to Porsche.
I had major financial problems and so had to return it to them.
They sold the car to clear the debt, but how much do you think they sold it for?
£37,000
I cannot believe that they sold it for that.
What do you lot think about it?

I'd say 996 prices across the range have bottomed out - can't see them dropping much lower.
As for the new 997TT I think it will only really affect the newer 996TTs - the older ones at £55K are playing in a different market to the new ones at £90K+
If anyone wants a bargain 996 the time to buy is now.

Yes I'm trying to convince my wife that a 996tt is a bargain at £55k!
As for the 01 Cab, it seems a little on the cheap side. However you must remember thats still over 50% retained value after 4 years. Not many cars can boast that. M3s have gone from £45k to £25k in about 2.5 years.
The upside for the person who buys your car is that he can probably drive it around for a couple of years and still sell it for £27k or more. £5k deprec a year for a prstige car is very good. Not much comfort to you though!!!

A comment that I read in a french porker magazine with respect to the likely depreciation of the 996TT rather belies this if they're right.
Their theory was that, because there has been no obvious evolution of the 996TT over its lifespan, for example facelifts, engine changes and suchlike, the value of the newer ones will be dragged down quite ferociously by the depreciated prices that the old ones are selling for.
There is some logic in the idea - why pay a big price differential just for a younger number plate and less miles - from outside people will be hard-pressed to know if it's an old one or a new one!
As someone else has mentioned above, I (am biased) would not be surprised to eventually see good 993TTs selling for more than 996TTs partly because of the whole beardy last-of-the-aircooled thing, but above all due to the relative numbers produced. 993TTs - around 7000 produced for the global market. 996TTs - mnay more than that I'd warrant, though I've not seen production figures quoted to date. Anyone know how many have been made?
I agree with Nel.
It's just my personal opinion, but I think the 996 will become the new 928. Prices will just continue to drop and drop due to massive cost of potential engine and gearbox problems, coupled with the obvious conclusion at Porsche that they got the styling wrong.
The more I drive my 997 the more it reminds me of my 993, but better. As development continues I think the 996 will gain a reputation for being a bit of a blip in the development of the 911.
Before I get seriously abused I owned two 996s and they're fantastic cars. I'm not slagging them off as machines in their own right, just relative to the history of the 911.

Agreed.
The 928 represents astonishing value for money these days and i think you're right, the 996 will also represent better and better value for money as time goes on.
Absolutely, as does the Boxster. You can get a right hooker for 13 grand now. As with the 928 people will buy them thinking they're cheap, then have a problem and....

I don't think the 996tt is overpriced if you take into account what it has to compete with on a performance/usability scale.
What are we talking about? 360 for example?
Might cost the same to buy, and feel a little more "special", but will definitely cost a lot more to maintain and certainly isn't as useable as a daily driver. Personally i don't think the performance is a match for the 996tt either, but on paper it's pretty close.
DB9? Now that's a more interesting prospect, but do you think a well driven DB9 could keep up with an equally driven 996tt from South Wales to North Wales, wet or dry? I don't think so, not even close.
TVR? No offence, but no way.
Merc? What, like an SL55 at £92k? Great as a GT and has the added bonus of a fantastic soundtrack and that clever roof, but it hasn't got the "feel" of the 996tt has it? I don't think you'd lose any of the experience in an SL55 if it was chauffeur driven. Great noise though, seriously.
Anyway, rant over. Think i may take the long way home tonight...

But, (prepares to be flamed ) the 996 TT is hugely overpriced (IMHO)
Don't get me wrong, I love them and I'd love one as an ideal next car.
But, c.£100K new - please, give me a break
All things are relative - bear in mind that the 993TT was nearly a hundred grand new ten years ago!
Chris
Simon not quite sure what you mean by Pors getting the styling wrong for the 996 and then right again for the 997? Nobody actually thinks the front of the 997 is good looking do they? And the car as a whole does'nt look a millions miles away from the 997. From most angles even anoraks cannot tell them apart
