No Certificate of Destruction on scrapping car

Hi,
Yesterday I 'weighed in' a car at a large metal recyclers - a 'first' for me!
In all the excitement, I completely forgot to ask for a 'Certificate of Destruction'. In addition, I was asked to hand over the complete V5C - without retaining the yellow tear-off section. The car was registered in my name, and had been SORN for several years. It was part-dismantled, with no possibility of ever getting back on the road.
I have a receipt for the transaction, but this has no mention of the car details - just the weight.
Should I ask for the CoD - and how does DVLA normally get informed? Can the recycler do it on my behalf?
The yard is shut today, so I can't contact them until Monday.

hey often don't give the COD, just the tear off section as they don't always scrap them. Some might be sold for parts, others might sit and be stripped over the course of a few months before being scrapped.
I "scrapped" a T5 a few year ago, they gave me back the tear off slip and i went on my way. a few months later said car came flying past me at many leptons on the Buckingham to MK road

Is it a CAT A or B write off?, severely accident damaged, or has the VIN plate missing?
If not, then even if the vehicle is just a shell, if it's not structurally damaged, it could be put back on the road (whether it makes any financial sense to do so is a different matter)
Just because you sell a vehicle for scrap, doesn't automatically mean that it has to be scrapped off and destroyed.
If the recycler/dismantler/salvage company/scrap yard operator decides that they can get more money selling the vehicle on for someone to rebuild and put back on the road, and there is no legal reason for the car not to be put back on the road, then they're perfectly entitled to sell the car on, rather than destroy it.

Most disreputable scrap yards have been legislated out of business, give them a ring tomorrow if you are still concerned.
