I want to remove my steering rack in order to send it to Killy Clinton for a refurb, does the Y piece have to be removed in order to get it out.

No.
unbolt/disconnect everything at the rack. Jack up the front of the car. Remove NS wheel. Remove it through there.

Thanks Steve one more question is it possible to remove it from the offside as space is tight in the garage.

I’ve removed mine twice and both times out the n/s
The steering shaft makes it really tight so it’s easier to pull most of the rack through to the left which gives some wiggle room to turn the rack slightly to get it to pass chassis rails.
That’s my experience. I don’t think it would come out through the offside without damaging chassis coating personally but others might have a technique. thumbup

Has to come out N/S
If it is power steering then an even bigger fight. Some come out fine others you may have to remove/tweek the fixed pipes.

Which was exactly my experience. I had to tweek the solid hoses in quite a bit.

I found it easier to remove the rack if the steering arms were removed first. The copper pipes on power racks can be replaced with flexi hoses.
