Hi all,
after a spot of advice.

so, the new ST is home (by new I mean new to me)

It's pretty loud, nothing too bad but just loud compared to my normal diesel vehicles.

It was listed as an aftermarket exhaust, however, I wondered if there are aftermarket exhausts that are road legal? I don't want to be swapping the damned thing come MOT time. I just want an exhaust that'll do the job it's needed to, I've no interest in noise.

As long as it’s got a cat and it’s not too noisy then it’s ‘legal’

If you don’t like the noise, buy a standard one and stick that on!

yeah that's the route i'll probably go.

I want to take the car to about 300bhp, but i've no interest in having other people know that's what it is. It's a shame the Ram air kit is noisy too, as i'm not sure that'll stay.....will see how I go, I like quiet power haha.....a sleeper ST if possible.

I’d say if you want 300bhp you would need some kind of aftermarket exhaust. I don’t know the ST that well but I’d expect for that power increase you’ll need better breathing than the OEM system.

yeah no doubt you're right in that one... I'll see if I can find a road legal performance part.

Scorpion cat cat systems are MOT compliant and a 2.5” tip shouldn’t be too noisy either....will speak to a fitter I think

A custom exhaust place may be able to add another silencer to the existing system.

oooh didn't think of that! have to see if there's anyone about - would quite like smaller diameter tips too, ideally rolled.

Maybe this is some semantics that I don’t understand, but my Golf has a Milltek exhaust and the TVR has an ACT Performance exhaust, and they’re both road legal and pass MoT’s no problem.

I think you have to go a ruddy long way to have it fail on noise - emmissions certainly i.e. remove the cat and all that jazz.

semantics possibly - but i'm probably not being very clear either.

Noise - mostly personal preference, I want a nice sound not a rediculous one (there's alot of boy racers round here with 5" exhausts on a 1.2 clio and it sounds st.

Emmissions - I want to retain the cat, want it MOT legal.

So yes, bit unclear probably

A 200 cell sport cat will be emission compliant, free up a few extra horses and add a bit of noise to a standard system, another option to an outright noisy exhaust that is just that, noisy.
