My M235i years used approved warranty is coming to an end and I'm going to take out the Allianz extended BMW warranty.

Policy handbook states the car has to have been maintained/serviced as per schedule and a VAT receipt for services present.

As it's a used car I don't have receipts for previous services.

Secondly I didn't change the microfilter when suggested as the car had only done 4,000 miles since the last time and I didn't see the point paying the extra 100 quid on top of the oil service if it was still basically a new filter (I assume of course it to be in good condition - assume being the word).

Could BMW say that I have not maintained the car properly?

Full main dealer servicing all up to date on the iDrive log.

Few have old receipts on used cars due to DP law.
I can attest to warranty claims okayed without them asked for.

Your full service history on iDrive will suffice.

FWIW I've always had nothing but good experiences from the BMW warranty. My car's now 12 years old, but I've got the comprehensive warranty as mileage it's on 78k. Had a few things go wrong over the years and always been resolved and paid for out of the warranty. I've always found the level of service from my local dealership to be exemplary whether they're dealing with a warranty claim, normal service activity or non-warrantied fix.

@Darlo74 , same here. Find them very good.
Hence I’m curious to see what examples such a strongly worded opposing view can reveal.

I've had my 335 from when it was 2 years old FBMWSH and Allianz warranty. Ive claimed quite a bit on it and certainly got my moneys worth, its only now at 152k and 13 years old that they are starting to get a bit grumbly about claims. They keep muttering something about wear and tear.

You're probably confusing the Mondial official BMW product with Warranty Direct or the likes.

They're basically at the opposite end of the spectrum.

Do they ?

I have the warranty on three of my cars .. they recently payed out £2500 on a 14 year old BMW without the slightest quibble

I’ve never had any issues with the BMW warranty

Perhaps you could supply some examples of claims you’ve had refused ?

Had my 335i (07 plate, now on 67k was on 54k initially) on the BMW comprehensive warranty for the last 3 years.

Its really true, totally depends on your dealer.

I've had numerous things done but they've kicked up a fuss trying to get out of it I.E this isn't covered, the cars modded (its not) etc.

In the end the work does get carried out but after some back and forth discussions.

So the warranty is great IMO but your experience ultimately rests on how your dealer is.

As for service history, my car has full BMW SH they have never asked to look at it once.

Poor advice with knowing the full coatings.

For example I purchased an extended warranty. Which covered £12k of repairs for lots of niggles on a 640d a few years back. Well worth it.

Also, get the monthly option. It’s not an annual policy paid monthly. It’s a monthly ongoing warranty and will remain in-place providing you keep paying.

I was in the same predicament, they said come in and get the microfilter done at which point it’s “signed off”

£15k paid out to fix a broken roof on my 650 cabrio, and some other bits and bobs over the years. There was a little discussion about whether I’d driven too fast while operating the roof (I hadn’t) but they paid out in the end.

The official BMW extended warranty is very good.

Best warranty there is. When buying you can haggle 2 years- cost to the dealer is 650

I can safely say I have only had one major failure of a clutch at 135K which would have cost £2500 for BMW to fixed cost me £1400 to fix at Indie with no issues or free coffee.

This would not have been covered by the warranty and had the car been with BMW I would have had to payout £575 per year for the warranty and extra costs of BMW servicing. I was doing 45K per year at the time and services consisted for pads/discs/oil/fuel filters/oil 2 or 3 times a year. So annually saving typically 1K. Therefore 3K extra deposit for next car.

Well, a clutch is wear and tear at 135k miles! smile On the other hand, if your iDrive unit had failed or electric seats had packed in, you’d be quids in...

That's conclusive evidence that they always find a way not to pay.

They should replace all wear and tear items if its under 100k.

I've had it done in the past when I pointed out the wording in the policy booklet.

I paid £960/year for 6 years for my fully comp, no excess extended/insured BMW warranty (with worldwide BMW Assist), but in that time I had a new engine (23k miles), a diff (70k miles), a couple of wheel bearings (40k + 60k miles), a window regulator/motor, wiper motor, hatch dampers, front calipers (90k miles), etc.

Cost to me of less than £6k for in excess of £15k of warranty claims (yes, I know it probably would have been cheaper labour at an indy, but don't think they'd have got the engine/diff any cheaper).

Stopped the policy once I went over 100k miles though, as the cover really dropped off and I wanted to add some aftermarket bit anyway.

It didn't need a clutch until 140,000 miles, but I thought that wasn't bad for a Z4MC used on road & track.

I was varying between 5,000 and 30,000 miles a year depending on where the work was - if I was abroad a lot then it only got driven at weekends/holidays; if I was working in the UK then I'd drive and claim the mileage expenses.

But have also heard of people paying the same amount as me, but only doing 2000 miles a year and never having to claim - so in their cases it's a bit of a waste of money.

For the ease of use I'd absolutely take it. They pay out and if you take it monthly they don't put the premiums up once you go over 60k. I've recommended it to a couple of colleagues now, so that they don't need to be concerned about noises. It's almost like financing repairs. You might be ahead sometimes, or behind sometimes. They also don't tend to quibble. They put a new gearbox in my old 328ci when it had 50k on it, and was 6 years old due to sticking detent pins.

Indeed - like all insurance policies it’s a waste of money if you don’t claim. However, you’re glad of it if your house burns down! biggrin

My current BMW is complicated and expensive to fix - it’s worth ~£600/year to me to not have to worry about fixing major failures.
