Down grading my bike
Discussion
I ride a Multistrada 1260s but thinking to downgrade it. The speed is fun but am trying to not ride as fast anymore - so instead am after a cheaper and more comfortable bike. It must have all the safety tech the 1260 has such as cornering and combined abs, TC, etc
I tried the new ducati scrambler which I really enjoyed on a short trip (reminded me of my 50cc monkey) but worried its to small for longer rides
Any other good bikes worth considering?
PS am 6 foot 4 so prefer big bikes or very comfortable

When have you noticed that "safety tech" actually operating?I tried the new ducati scrambler which I really enjoyed on a short trip (reminded me of my 50cc monkey) but worried its to small for longer rides

Crashed my old bike (mostly rider error/panic) as since then swore would never be on another without full modern day tech
Trouble is, it's the flagship bikes that get all the tech. Lower models get, well, less.....it's part of the price premium..As for wantying something MORE comfortable, don't know what to say... The Multi, GS et al are the most comfortable in terms of riding position and weather protection. maybe a full dress tourer would be better but they're not a downgrade, you're in for serious $$$ to move into those waters as ot's only (maybe) BMW RT & GT models, Honda Goldwing that are mopre comfortable especially being 6'4"

Is the other option simply to not ride the Multistrada as fast? Just because the bike can do the speed doesn't mean you have to do the speed. I tried the new ducati scrambler which I really enjoyed on a short trip (reminded me of my 50cc monkey) but worried its to small for longer rides

If you want to change for other reasons then a change makes sense but if it's just because you ride a bike you otherwise really like too fast then I'd suggest you're changing the wrong thing.

It simply doesn't work that way for me.If you want to change for other reasons then a change makes sense but if it's just because you ride a bike you otherwise really like too fast then I'd suggest you're changing the wrong thing.
Different bikes have different speeds they "work" at - be that due to gearing / NVH, wind resistance etc
My 525 around 65, 990 was 100+ so I sold it and bought a 950 which works at 75ish whilst it will happily nip into 3 figures for overtaking - which was exactly what I was looking for.

Same could be said about clutches.OP, I personally would try to wind things back a little and keep the bike you already have, it already sounds like it has everything you want anyway.
I dont know the multi's well but I'd assume that it has rider modes available? If youre wanting to wind your neck in a bit try dropping it in to rain mode and make a bit more of a conscious effort to take things a bit easier?
Unless of course you just want a new bike. That in itself changes all of the rules.
I completely get what the op is saying about the speed at which a vehicle naturally sits. I ride my old shape Speed Triple much quicker on country back roads, but don’t really venture above 80-90 on motorways etc because of the wind blast. Naked bikes are good because they’ve got the performance but you are less inclined to ride at license endangering speeds on one.

I understand that different bikes have different "sweet spots" but that doesn't stop them being used outside of those sweet spots. If it did, no one would ever ride their bike outside of the sweet spot and would go everywhere on that bike at pretty much exactly the same speed.
Managing speed is the responsibility of the rider (not the bike) so is something we all have to do every second of every ride. Simply deciding that you don't want to travel at a given speed but would prefer to be going 10mph slower is actually pretty easy and 100% in the control of the rider.
I can understand that doing so results in a feeling of having "more bike" than is needed and possibly wanting to change as a result of that but if the OP is comfortable on his bike and likes it then finding a solution to his problem is actually pretty cheap and easy.
I think its simply having the option to drive the bike fast which leads to doing so. Almost feels wastefull not too.
If i was to ride around in wet mode all day the vibration/heat from the bigger engine would annoy me where instead I could be just as happy on the smaller engined bike/not have those tempetations/save some $

Sorry, but I disagree. YOU have different speeds YOU work different bikes at. I can understand that due to gearing and engine configuration it can be difficult to run at slow speeds in high gears on certain bikes, but I don't think we're talking about doing 30mph in top everywhere.
