Washing a polished car
Discussion
I polished my car at the end of last week. Used Autoglym SRP and then gave it a coat of Autoglym extra gloss protection over the top and buffed off.
My car tends to get mucky quite quickly where I live, so it is already not far off needing a very quick wash to get the dust off.
Am I okay to pressure wash the paint? Or will it affect the polish?
Thanks.

Won't affect polish much but try to pick one of the shampoos that don't strip wax when washing though.
This. I had no idea that some car washes did this. Just use a high quality shampoo - some have additional waxes and conditioners in them.

I worked at a Mazda main dealership years ago, and they used TFR which is Traffic Film Remover and takes off everything including polish etc. I always ask for my car not to receive a "Service Wash" when in for it's annual.

Thanks - any recommendations for a high quality shampoo?Just use a high quality shampoo - some have additional waxes and conditioners in them.
I just purchased Autoglym Pure Shampoo as it states it has no additives and will not affect any current coating. I figured it'll work with my current Autoglym SRP and EGP.
It is only for an old Honda CRV, so we aren't talking showroom condition, but I do like the car and would like to keep it looking presentable.
On another note, how often should I be polishing it to keep the shine + the effect of it filling in the fine scratches in? Currently it is masking them all really well, i'd like to keep that up.
Thanks.

I usually go over ours with Sonax Brilliant Shine Detailer - brilliant for mega tight beading but getting a slick feeling finish is difficult.
I also use Meguiars Xpress Synthetic Spray wax. I buy it by the US gallon and it lasts a good while. The beading isn’t as tight, but that’s because I’m comparing it with Sonax BSD, rather than proper wax which isn’t as good as the BSD either. The paint feels much slicker though with the Megs spray wax compared to BSD.

Megs gold class
2 buckets, one with grit guard
0ppm water filter
These 3 things will make a huge difference.

Autoglym snow foam with a decent lance (standard Karcher is rubbish).
Foam, soak then jet wash.
Re foam then bucket wash (bucket with a guard). I should use 2 buckets but i can never be arsed!
