My MIL comes round pretty much every single day - maybe sunday off and possibly a day in the week but on average 5 times a week. I work from home and this is not only distracting but annoying. My wife is a stay at home mother so she comes round to see her but it's frankly absurd the amount of time she spends round here.
The covid19 restrictions didnt seem to put her off and while I said she shouldnt be round here and mixing she said it was 'fine'.
We are a family of 8, can I ban her from the house, or can she say she is in my social bubble. It's a difficult situation and my wife doesnt want to upset her but she does agree 5 times a week is too much.

I'd just say that you are unable to work from home properly due to the disruption of her visits and would she mind awfully if she could try and just come at the weekend.

If your wife and her mother always meet up like this and are both happy with it and it's just pissing you off now that you're at home to witness it, then personally I'd try to suck it up rather than make my problem their problem. Headphones on. Do not disturb notice on top of head. If your wife feels harassed by her mother, then I'd encourage her to try to address that. And clearly of she's ignoring social distancing stuff and putting herself and your family at greater risk of getting ill, then that's an entirely legitimate concern and you and your wife should try to get that message across to her together.

Can you not just move off to another room and close the door? MIL comes round here frequently, but she knows the boundaries and not to disturb me. I'm guessing your house is small so you have to work on the kitchen table (for example?)

It would annoy the hell out of me too. However, the solution that suits you is going to be a real issue for everyone else, not sure that you would want that.

Can you shut yourself away and work, maybe come down for a coffee and say hi and then go back to work.

eta perhaps she wants to feel useful, could you give her a job to do in your house such as baking/looking after children/gardening.or something. Turn the visits into something productive to your benefit.

If when she comes round it will result in there being more than 6 people in the house then she is committing a crime (now) and could be fined. If your family of 8 are mostly at school when she comes round she's probably ok. Although I'm not 100% on the rules for people from other households mixing right now.

I would imagine an older version of his wife, at a guess.

OP, you should cheekily ask to go and live in her house as she's always round at yours. See what she says to that.

..or you could transform the shed into an office/ build a sun house in the garden to get away from it all.

Ask her to help wiht domestic chores when she comes round; cleaning, taking the rubbish out, weeding, moving furniture etc. This could be the wife asking, 'Mum, give us a hand with this'. Eventually MiL will have somewhere else she needs to be most of the time.

With our in laws we just stick to whatever the COVID rules say, no flex whatsoever.

Once you let them be ‘cheeky’ it becomes a slippery slope.

They’re in local lockdown at the mo hehe

I’m trying to convince the wife to count the dog in the ‘rule of 6’ too

Suggest your wife and kids visit the mother-in-law instead.

Or send them out to buy toilet rolls.
