Speed camera avoidance technique
Discussion
Evening all,
A thought popped into my head the other day regarding mobile speed camera evasion on a motorbike. My understanding is the van clocks your speed head on as you travel towards it and a camera in the front cabin picks up your number plate as you ride past.
Has anyone, or knows a friend who has popped a wheelie to avoid a ticket?

I've found that the MK1 eyeball combined with waze running in the background on your phone is most effective, if you pay attention you shouldn't get caught.[/url]
I did enjoy the video you linked. I recommend your friend takes it down though. With the amount of CCTV around these days, plod could probably figure out who it was if they took an interest.

In theeeeeeory, maybe.
In reality..... A set of clocks going past
Someone will be able to identify the make of bike and the road. The date and time could be figured out by the police, as they know when they were operating in that lay-by. CCTV would identify a bike of that make in the area at the time. Given the rural location and speedometer in mph with no km/h subscale, it’s probably an older bike. It will be the only bike of that make in the area at the time. That’s not enough by itself, so combine with:In reality..... A set of clocks going past

There are some frames where the key ring is visible flapping in the wind. On the LHS there looks to be a white non-factory item around some cables. The key ring and the non-standard features would identify the specific bike, if the police paid the keeper of the suspect bike a visit. The police in the lay-by may have body cameras running, which would catch further video of the bike passing. This combined with YouTube footage, would further identify the specific bike.
Sorry to be a party pooper. If you do something unlawful, don’t post a video about it.

I know of someone who obscured the plate prior to doing a U-turn.
Got done for PCJ. The cops love putting effort into prosecuting a PCJ, above your more usual crimes.
I've done the U turn trick a few times. Never been stupid enough to cover a plate, so no risk of a PCoJ charge. From my discussions with camera operatives, most are somewhat sympathetic, so they will turn likely a blind eye to a u-turn but covering your plate.... WTF.... Got done for PCJ. I think you're overthinking things. Like your gloves. There are some frames where the key ring is visible flapping in the wind. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/uk-england-derbyshire-50127635Bike in vid on this thread had a peak speed of 110mph. They were damned lucky to have spotted the police. Why undo that by posting a public video of it?

So, to avoid a speeding ticket we're discussing risking a dangerous driving charge (ban and possible prison) or PCJ (substantial fine and possible prison)
Sounds like a worthwhile gamble.
It's an interesting subject! I personally wouldn't do it but I'm sure some people have/would.

I remember reading a year or two back about a biker who put his foot over his plate after going past a van at speed. Got properly f
ked for it.
I got very lucky in 2018 after going towards one at double the limit, but I think being on the wrong side of road at the time overtaking meant the camera wasn't focused in on me. Never heard anything from it, but did crap myself getting home from work for about 3 weeks.
