Having experienced these fellows circling our boat in the Indian Ocean a few times, I declined to join the rest of the crew for our daily dip and instead resorted to using the deck wash hose henceforth for my ablutions!

They didn't bite chunks out of our 74 footer though, so that was good of them!! biggrin

Despite the perceived 'danger' from the marine wildlife, it is one of life's greatest experiences to sail the Oceans. Maybe try it SS?

Sadly, we, the human race, cause more harm and suffering to them but that's another topic ...

If my boat was attacked by a killer whale I'd give it a ruddy good thwack on the nose with a boathook, and remind it in no uncertain terms that I was British.

On the plus side, the worst foe I have encountered to date is blanket weed.

Oh I plan to smile looking to get some experience with sailing once we are settled (emigrating soon) and then hopefully a few voyages in the future.

Orca's are clever enough to avoid attacking humans, a few known cases of them diverting at the last second after presumably their sonar figuring out that the human was not in fact a seal.

I think there are only two official recorded incidents with humans, one led to injuries.

I'll be sure to tell my crew that there is nothing to worry about when they go overboard for a swim, as Orcas are capable of distinguishing deckies from Mr Seal! wink

They'll be reassured that there is only two 'official' records of attacks and the big fish with teeth would rather chew the rudder than them. My crew always trust my judgement, which is nice!!

Injuries to the human or the Orca?

Ozzie man reviews are brilliant. Not normally impersonating an animal, but still much amusement :

This is a prime example of what you talk about. Amazing footage but scary nonetheless (i'd be petrified if it happened to me).
