52k total miles no service for first 38k

Hi,

Went to see car I had put deposit on. Knew it had "partial" service history but it turns out first service recorded was at 38k miles. Dealer just serviced car.

Car is 428i 52k miles. Good condition. 15,250. Dealer says price reflects partial SH.

I'm worried about engine being worn after 38k on dirty oil. Also future resale (in 4 years / 2 services time). "Partial" says to me "it might have missed one, or have a gap".

What do you think?
Is there anyway to see if it was serviced but not recorded?

Isn't the modern 428i a turbo car? Personally, I wouldn't consider this type of car without proper history.

The technology in these engines to make them so efficient with that performance means there is a compromise. That compromise is the requirement for annual services to be followed strictly to ensure reliability. So I wouldnt' risk it.

You will get shafted price wise when you trade in.

Good luck getting the deposit returned although the dealer will be under no obligation to do so as the car was sold part sh.

Got money back. No problem. Shame was I be really liked the car.

An Honest dealer, maybe they can find you another one.

Some dealers would have just put a moody stamp in a service book, or produced a moody receipt for the missing service.

An advantage of digital service records I guess.

I once looked at a BMW will 'full service history' 2 of the stamps were from 'BWM', had to laugh, the previous owner who traded it in had got away with it.

I once bought an Alfa Romeo whose service book grew 2 annual services in the week between test drive and collection. I wasn't bothered as it was very cheap, and I had already noted the missing service record, but still... Garage in question disappeared, soon after.

Thanks for all the replies. A bit of phoning around BMW UK and various dealers and detective work and it turned out it did have FSH, all with BMW main dealers. So I bought it.
