Just a quick question about the tax.
I am in the process of buying a 6 month old car from BMW. Have agreed the final price with them.
They say I am the one that has to cover the road tax.
I thought they would cover 6 or 12 months and that would be included in the total price.
Can anyone clear this up for me.

Thank you

Not unless you built it into the deal.

Road tax is instantly cancellable and remaining months refundable online now.

I bought a 12 month old BMW AUC, had to tax it myself.

You pay for it either way. It’s usually built into the deal, but if it is not, you will need to sort it on your own.

Since road tax was 'digitalised' a few years back, it is no longer transferable when a car changes hands. The buyer always has to tax their new car (or sorn it) on the day of purchase.

So the default position buying any used car is that you will pay to tax it immediately, unless the seller has explicitly offered to cover the cost.
