What’s the lowest price that you can get 200mph for.

Road-legal, with an MOT, not a ticking time bomb, not a write-off welded back together, an actual normal, honest, real car that you could drive over to Germany and hit the double-ton without risking death.

I’ve a car that I believe should do it, and would expect a little North of £50,000 in a private sale.

There must be a good distance down from there that will get there, so what’s the base?

Not sure about the absolute cheapest but for a well put together car I was thinking along the lines of an E55 AMG

E55 will need a bit of work to get there where the 600's are a map away & the 65 is right there all are are well built as each other.

I’m maybe missing something there, but none of those adverts suggest 200mph.

You’d need something over 700bhp to hit that in one of those, wouldn’t you, and I don’t see that any of them have that.

Aren’t the E60 M5’s good for near 200mph if mapped / de-restricted?
Can be had for £10k, if you’re brave!

Back in 2005, 700hp was enough to hit 211mph in a brabus s-class:

https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/720bhp...

So ZZ’s suggestions above with a remap sound very feasible. I wonder what the power difference is to crack 211mph compared to 200. Probably 50hp at those speeds!

No, it's the other way round. As you get faster, the extra power required to go even faster increases dramatically. So to go from 200 to 211mph will require a significant power increase.

I read (a long while ago) that the S600 had enough grunt to just exceed 200mph but required a limiter to be removed. Before trying it, I would also probably have the wheel bearings checked and tyres replaced for some capable of that speed and load.

There are a few Bentley Continental GT 6.0 litre for around £15k on AT, top speed on paper is 198mph. A few tweaks should get it to 200.
