Same question posed on the Capri group on FB with some absolutely stupid responses, so wondered what the take is here.

I’m not about to buy it but I think if I was desperate for a Capri to look at then this might be the one.

Value is in the mileage so can never be used properly Obvs without affecting the value.

Think if it were a 4sp it would appeal more to me or if a 3.0S more so

No.

For £60k there are far more interesting things to buy.

NO, if the seller gets anything near the asking price, then I take my hat off to them, along with a free ticket to the nearest institution for the buyer wink

IMO though, cars like this are not really cars anymore, just a item of value that needs to be kept as is to Hopefully go up in value, so again to me utterly pointless as there meant to be used!

Playing devils advocate though for a minute.

As already seen, a similar mileage RS2000 would make nearer 100k. So why shouldn’t a Capri make this?

Agreed it’s TFD but image the guy that would spend 60k on a Capri or an Escort would have all the other cars that are better or more exciting already

Just needs a millionaire with a desire to re live his youth.
Plenty of them about.

If i really wanted one of these and had 60k burning a hole in my pocket, I think id restore one. That way you can have the colour and the spec you desire

Nope ! Anyone who pays that amount of cash for a 2.8i Capri, has banged their head or needs to lose cash.
They were well past their sell by date when launched in 81. I had 3 x 2.8i Capris and 323is, R5 GT Turbos etc etc, used to climb all over them.
The 4 speed ones are the better car, but the budget spec springs and dampers that Ford fitted were woeful.
Yes, they have character, but So much else out there for that kind of money and with such a low mileage the thing is just a trailer Queen.

I would pay that kind of money and more, for a MK1 3 Litre Capri, with race or interesting provenance though such as one of the 1970 or 72 FordSports Day cars, or the ex Gordon Spice / Wisharts Garage - 1972 Daytona Yellow 3000GT that he did the 73 Avon Tour in and also the ETC

Absolutely no way. The shape was never that attractive when they first came out, and has not improved with age. You could get a pretty decent new car, and still have spare cash.

Sold my last 2.8i in 2018 and as much as I love them, had six Capris in all, I couldn't even justify £10k on one now.

Bought my first in '88 because it was the best bhp per £ at the time.

That was really the selling point for them then.

Saying that my 'W' plate 3.0S remains my favourite car that I've ever owned or driven.

That isn’t the point. The guy that potentially could buy this already has countless other cars.

No reason at all.........12 months ago.

In the current climate, not so sure. Even 'investors' maybe be looking at things other than old cars in the current mess we are in, and are likely to be in for some time, and this is not a buy it and use it purchase with that low mileage. Even a short term view of say 5 years, is it really going to be worth £75k in 5 years time......not so sure?
We've seen a chilling of Escort RS sale prices/no sales at auctions, so I think that it would struggle to sell at that price.....imho........high 40's would be my more realistic sale price point.

I'm not sure that's so relevant now they're all old, classic cars - I seriously doubt that the 323i and R5 GT Turbo boys and girls are going to come looking for you when you're out for your Sunday drive! wink

I never thought it was relevant back in the day.....well it never was for me at any rate.

I can see some near factory fresh unicorn quattro/cosworth/scoob etc going for patently insane money bought by someone because its the car he lusted after but couldn't afford/insure when he was a kid and now has done really well for himself (or herself, racists) and buys the dream, but the Capri was never *that* unobtainable and as said never really *that* desirable

Without wanting to be incredibly dull, if someone thinks it’s worth it to them then it’s worth it.

Whether that person will come along in a month of Sunday’s is not something I’d bet on.

But, if this thing is absolutely bang on original, it is incredibly rare, perhaps unique, and there’s no getting away from it.

And its about the same price as a new range rover or audi q car.
There seem to be plenty around who can afford numerous ones of those
It will be nice trinket for an Essex boy made good.

Love Capris. Have one in the garage right now.

But while I always knew they were going to go up in price it has got crazy over the last few years.

I don't think anyone will pay that for a 2.8 Special tbh. If someone has that kind of money for a Capri they will buy the 280 that is up for a little more.

For me, any car I buy is for driving tho - so wouldn't consider a Capri at that money. Won't be complaining at the values when I eventually decide to sell mine but I'll probably have run it into the ground.

The value is in the mileage.
But.
Who buys a new car and doesn't drive it ?
How can you be sure the mileage is true ?
Anyone can clock an old car
