Hello,

My wife (stupidly) has allowed me to purchase a 2nd car for myself. Had a Corolla t-sport before and now have a Leon FR on HP till 2023.

I love jap stuff however my rolla is the most jap thing I've owned. I'll have around £5k to work with. Preferably something rwd with a turbo however if there's no turbo then I'd consider it depending on what it is. What suggestions are there?

Cheers.

the answer is probably a MK1 or Mk2 MX5.

£2000 will buy you a base vehicle, £3000 will buy you a complete conversion kit to do it yourself.

preconverted ones around from £4000 dependant on condition and whether an LSD is fitted

1.6 should see 200-220bhp
1.8 should see ~250bhp

a lot easier to work on than anything mid engine

I did consider an MX5. I've also looked at 350z's with thoughts on doing suspension, wheels, tyres until I feel I want more power then turbo it. I wondered if I would outgrow the MX5 too quickly. You raise a good point though, more money for parts. Ta.
