V8 Next Car Purchase - Ideas Please

Long time lurker, first time poster.
Having sold my Merc C250 AMG Sport Plus Diesel estate, my 2002 Astra Coupe Turbo, and soon to be selling my 2000 1.8 MX5, I am on the hunt for a V8 4/5 seater.
Since passing my test 15+ yrs ago, and realising id have to bankrupt myself to afford and run a V8 for commuting and insurance, I am now older and moving house again, but finding myself in walking distance to work with the only driving in the week needed for nursery and soon to be school runs.
Logically I should have something electric or an eco runabout, but obviously I want a V8 before mobs chase them away with eco sustainable pitchforks.
Budget I want to keep it 100% cash paid and sub £10k, needs to have 4 or 5 seats (that can fit child seats), Needs to be generally reliable and be something I can work on myself or not be limited to ultrabespoke specialists.
I have been looking at the 4.2 V8 S4 B7 or the same era S5, but open to other ideas.
Lets see what the powers of the car community can do for a fellow petrol head.

That's correct. LS1 used in the Camaro/Corvette no less. Very strong engines and a good option for a V8 on a budget. Always loved the idea of one myself.LS family engine isn’t it? If so fairly hardy and strong

If it was an S4 I’d be looking Avant probably, my 3.5yr old loves the mx5s roof down so sure she would enjoy the S4 cabrio!

Op requires Cheap, reliable and V8 - I suspect the reality is he can have any two of those

I second the suggestion of the Monaro, especially if you wanted a manual.
I had a Merc AMG C43 (the late 90s V8) as the family car for a few years and it did the job very nicely while we had one child. The Monaro or a saloon should work fine unless you expect the family to expand...
Avoiding big barges and SUVs I'd be looking at:
- Audi S4s you're already browsing
- Monaro
- Merc C55
- MG ZT (one featured on PH last week)

Jaguar S-Type R... plenty of character and ticks your reliable/practical requirements.
Nice clean examples are available well within your budget and depreciation seems to have plateaued over the past few years so you should be able to scratch your V8 itch and not lose much, if anything, for a couple of years V8 enjoyment.
Personally I’d be more confident an S-Type R has had an easier, better cared for life than something like a £10k S5.
