Figured I'd ask in the BMW section, since it's mainly a question of knowing WDS and putting it into practice.

Looking for a place that would be able to do a diesel to diesel swap, going from M57 D2 (DDE 506) to D4 (DDE 606).
This has been done before and is not too onerous mechanically, but would obviously require knowledge and equipment to pull off.
The harderst bit will be wiring/electronics, as the swap target is a slightly newer engine and box. Hence looking for recommendations of a place that would have some experience with BMW wiring and mechanics.
Finding someone to do this outside of the Land Rover realm seems tricky, as most are either doing petrols or have gone out of business

Why the change out of interest? Is it going into a Land Rover ? Who did the current wiring?

Better component materials, more potential power, better options for a gearbox.
It's going into an E46, LR came up because it appears only LR people do diesel conversions, everyone else sticks to LS/JZ/BMW petrols, which is kind of understandable.
Current wiring/engine is stock

I would suggest Dan at BM Conversions, not far from Wolverhampton. Very clever with wiring and superb workmanship. His conversions look 'factory'.

There's Ed the Eastern European guy on YouTube, 777Garage. Seems clever enough.

If both varieties were fitted to an E46 you stand a good chance of being able to have it done, without it's a quagmire as most of the ECUs are interconnected, especially the DME.

If the D4 is the twin turbo it’ll take lots of knowledge to fit to an E46.

can't seem to find any contact info for him, which leads me to believe he isn't offering his services to the public?

yep, that's the one. Hence why I'm looking for a WDS wizard

Does it physically fit? (re turbos). Is it getting an auto box or a manual with a solid flywheel?

It should (I've seen it in a saloon, so I probably have slightly more space in the coupe).
The plan is for an 6HP28, I'm not sure if the newer M57s came with manuals, and regardless those newer autos are crazy good

Sounds like a good project, the twin turbo never came with the manual due to the DMF limitations.

Yep, it's the implementation that's challenging - I would've probably gone to Europe to get it done, if it wasnt covid times.
I think I've seen manual conversions for these, but don't really see the point with modern autos, especially when sitting in traffic

Manual conversions have been done, but having run an M57 with over 600Nm I think the auto is a better match.

In all fairness, even the current GM unit would've been an ok match for the current engine, if it had some reasonable torque rating
