Audi A4 B7 TFSI
Discussion
Having had quite a lot of different cars over the last 17 years I wanted to get something to keep for the next 3 years or so and seeing as some of them haven't been too practical I wanted something with 4 doors and a decent sized boot. I liked the B6 Avant that I'd had back in 2014 so decided to find a nice B7 as they're basically the same car but newer. Had to be a petrol as I don't do enough mileage for diesel and I would have liked Quattro although it wasn't a deal breaker if I could find the right car without it.
Went to look at a few but with being 13+ year old Audi's they weren't well looked after and lots in poor condition. I found one local to me being advertised at a dealer for quite strong money. However when I went to view I was quite surprised by its condition, no wear inside the cabin, no rust on the original arches, very clean under the bonnet. It is an S-Line model with the 2.0 TFSI engine and has rear parking sensors, power folding mirrors and cruise control but not much else option wise. No leather, RNSE, arm rest etc but these can all be added later easy enough.
So I bought it and got £200 off to go towards changing those shocking wheels
On forecourt:

At home after picking it up:

First job is to find some OEM wheels! 18" correctly sized (A4 wheels not the common A3 items) 5-Arm wheels:

Some new rubber, Uniroyal RainSport 5s:

After wheel refurb:

On the car, looks MUCH better!

Quick clean with private plate now on, scrubs up well for a 13 year old car:

Could hear a scraping noise from underneath when pulling up on drive. Quick look underneath and noticed the undertray hanging down:

Fixed with some fixings lying around in the shed:

Obligatory cable tie!

Window tints being fitted:

Window tints fitted and car needing a clean:

Smart cars - although I think they suit a darker colour as the rear lights get a bit lost in all the red. Is this the Mk5 golf motor?
I believe it is - 2.0 Turbo 200bhp. Although was missing a few of those ponies as I'll detail later.5harp3y said:
looks great but i think it looked better without tints
Thanks. I prefer them on. Only went for a medium so you can still partially see through. Not a fan of limo.LFB531 said:
Agree on the wheels, they even look tidy on a lowly 170bhp oil burner!

I've been smoking around for a while in mine, a decent 'do-it-all' wagon. The 4wd has proved itself quite useful too. Just make sure your ECU isn't buried under a puddle of water in the scuttle, the drains get clogged.
Nice Avant! They are the best wheels IMO, looks great and take seconds to clean! Yeah I'm aware of that issue, mine does fill up a bit after a car wash or rain. Its on my list to clean out and remove the bungs. I've been smoking around for a while in mine, a decent 'do-it-all' wagon. The 4wd has proved itself quite useful too. Looks very clean and tidy.
Subtle mods suit it well.
Thanks. It is a very clean example for its age. Alot of these cars now are in poor condition or have been "barried". Will hold onto this one for a few years.Subtle mods suit it well.
I've got a B7 Avant with the 2.5TDi engine in.
Wheels look good - I've stuck with the factory 16s on mine, but I use XL stiffer sidewall tyres that really tightened up the cornering feel.
I ended up taking some of the badges off my boot as some were loose. I never bothered with any products to clear the sticky stuff off - took about 10 months for nature to take its course.
Good work on the tail pipes, they use some decent steel, mine also cleaned up well (I used wet n dry), I had a remus backbox on my last car and never polished up anywhere near as well.

Car needs an audio upgrade as I don't really want to be carrying a lot of CDs about. Could have went aftermarket system like my previous A3 but prefer the OEM look and sound, so picked up an RNSE in good condition for a good price. Gives me the option of using two SD cards and the ability to add bluetooth down the line. Definitely smartens up the interior:

GPS antenna install:

Up to date maps:

Sat nav is a bit dated by todays standards but seeing as the antenna and nav disc were cheap, may as well get it working:

Well there's a coincidence, I'm just about to pull out my OE audio unit as I want DAB, same as yours I think.

I'm going to use a single DIN converter kit for about £90 which will cope with the BOSE and found one of these for £25 as new in a box on FB marketplace;

It can have a red display to match and gives me bluetooth as well. I like sticking OE as much as I can but hope this ends up looking ok.

£90 to convert to single!? WOuld you not be better off putting the £90 towards a double din unit seeing as your already have the double din cage?I'm going to use a single DIN converter kit for about £90 which will cope with the BOSE and found one of these for £25 as new in a box on FB marketplace;

The glue would of only taken 2 minutes to wipe off with WD40 ha

I lied....the wiring conversion kit with fascia was only £57, so just under £90 with the head unit. So many options out there but I've got one of those Pure units in another car and it's great. A new DAB double din would be a shade more than that I fear.Gassing Station | Readers' Cars | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
