Hi all,

First time posting on the alfa forum.
My dads got a 166 2.5 v6....and the cam belt had gone and ruined the engine! It has been changed when it should have, but has lived a hard life, with about 120,000 on the clock after 3 years.

My question is, anyone now how much an engine would be? Still waiting to find out if the warranty is going to cover it, but we were told it could cost over £10,000 for a new one!!!
any ideas on second hand ones??

Cheers

This bloke is hoping to make £1400 on a 3.0, so that sounds like the kind of money you might be looking at for an unknown engine!

Are you far from Royston?

Even a V6 Cambelt snapping at our place doesn't normally go much higher than 3k for repair costs.

Unless he was doing 7k rpm, it is _very_ unlikely to need a new engine.

sounds like a good price, not many miles.
Never heard of Royston, so probably far away.
Local garage has it a the moment.

Thats interesting, hmmm.....just assumed the engine would be finished, will be interesting to see what the garage say when the have it apart.

He was just pootling round a roundabout, must have only been doing 2k.

Cheers both.

If time is a factor, it is likely that a s/hand engine would be changed quicker than repairing the valve gear on the current engine.
Either way, the costs will likely be similar.
