A group of scumbags tried to nick my bike yesterday evening. Main culprit in custody but bike unrideable at the moment as they have yanked a couple of wires out from the ignition (it looks like, it was dark). I'm not very happy.

That’s really st mate. It’s a horrible feeling, and made me really angry when it happened to me.

One positive is they’ve got the scrote which is unusual. My biggest fear was they’d come back when they knew where bikes were but that’s at least less likely if they have someone for it.

Let's hope the scumbag gets to "fall down the stairs" in the police station.

Surprised that they really want a V7 (I'm an owner myself), not exactly the fastest thing are they? and a fairly tight knit community with regards to "spares" sounds all opportunistic. I ride mine around London and never had an issue.

Sorry to hear that.

Where was the bike when they attempted to take it? Also how old is the bike? I’m just curious about them pulling wires.

A friend had a V7 stolen a few years ago. I was surprised too, didn't think that they'd be that high up the scrotes list.

Sorry to hear that Pothole, horrible anytime but even more so with a new bike.

Makes you sick doesn't it.

There's been two thefts recently in my area. I'm not sleeping great waiting for my lock alarm to go off! My garage can't get delivered soon enough.

Where did they try and nick it from and how did they catch them! The latter part is rather surprising tbh!

Yes, the new bike. Yes, at the back of work. A police car happened to be about a minute away and two of my colleagues were out having a fag when the security guard spotted the oiks messing with the bike and came running out.
Because of the layout of the car parks, the one we caught made a poor escape decision and was hiding in bushes when plod arrived and shone their sun-like torches on him. Had a rucksack of tools with him so initial arrest for going equipped.
It looks from CCTV like a purely opportunist incident - I think they were looking for scooters because the arrested suspect made a half heated attempt to break the steering lock (sitting on seat and using foot to push the left bar) which didn't work, then went to work on wiring. What he thought he was going to do with a running engine in a bike which could only go in left hand circles, God only knows.
I got it recovered home as I really didn't want to leave it overnight, (and I needed a ride home! )
SOCO visited this morning (probably helped to have "connections" there, but maybe they would have come had I just been an ordinary punter) Sadly, nothing usable. They dumped the pushbikes they arrived on before running away and those have apparently yielded some prints and DNA which may identify the others if our boy doesn't dob them in. I suspect the cycles may turn out to be stolen, too...dealer is picking the bike up on Friday and will give me a quote. Can't see it being that complex as it looks like literally two wires he pulled out, but who knows?
On nights tonight - I've come in the car...life goes on.

Thanks for the kind words, all. You're not such a bad bunch, are you?

I think you've posted that this is your first new motorcycle or car. That someone tried to steal your first new toy is saddening.

Trying to hotwire a motorcycle with the steering lock on indicates a suitable candidate for a thinking skills course?

Sorry to hear that, total scumbags.

Hopefully, this time next week the bike will be sorted.

My first brand new bike. I had a new car a few years back on PCP. This is all my own money. He's not the sharpest tool in the box, no.

Gutted for you mate. I know how pleased you were with the new bike, I hope you get it back up to scratch soon. Hope the thieving scum gets dealt with appropriately too.

Thanks. I'll push the prosecution as far as I can. The bike should be back to as new sometime next week, I reckon. Just hope it doesn't cost too much.

Sorry to hear about that.

Was there any additional security, such as disc lock or chain, on the bike? Is there any solid object at your work that you could chain it to?
