My son has a Trek mountain bike which has seemingly developed a puncture.
I attempted to fix it and try as I might cannot get the tyre off the rim, it appears to be glued on.

Has anyone had similar problems?

It might have Treks moulded rim strips which lock the tyre bead in place quite securely. Try pushing the tyre beads inwards towards the opposite bead- might have to stand on it- and it should pop off, make sure it's dislodged all the way round. then you can get a tyre lever in as normal.

In addition to the above info, splash some soapy water round the bead and it wil make your life a lot easier.
Especially when refitting.

Yes, they're tough. You can't even get a tyre lever between the wheel rim and the tyre bead.

If you've got a vice, you can squeeze the tyre to get it off the rims.
